Monday Morning Staff Meeting

I trust that everyone had a great Thanksgiving filled with good food and wonderful memories.

We had a wonderful weekend at our daughter's new loft apartment. We ate good food and had fun playing a new game called Brainiac and caught a movie. On Sunday morning we awoke to this lovely sight.

Photobucket

It was very early in the morning and the streets were virtually empty.

We did the Low Country Shrimp Boil on Saturday night, but since everyone is overloaded with food, I'll wait until tomorrow to show you how to cook it. Bring your bibs.

Someone had asked for a close-up photo of the brown transferware that I found at Goodwill. Here it is:

It's a lovely choice for fall and winter table settings.

Someone also asked to see a picture of the repurposed hotel soap. Here it is unmolded and wrapped in organza and tied with a length of yarn.

I thought you might be interested in seeing this image. When the Farmer and I toured the island of St. Croix last spring we came upon this display in front of a rural home.

Photobucket

The owner had collected trash from the roadside in front of his house and created this display. The bottles were artfully arranged in repeating patterns and the effort made me smile.

If you're of a certain age you'll remember Dinah Shore singing, "See the U.S.A., in your Chevrolet, America is asking you to call."

With that in mind, I've decided to publish a new and separate blog entitled, ON THE ROAD WITH THE FARMER'S WIFE.(Click on the link to check it out)

I'm going to be taking my new 2008 Chevy Equinox on road trips to visit some of this country's lesser known sights. We'll be getting off the interstate and traveling the blue highways made famous by author William Least Heat-Moon.

Next spring I'll be going on a road trip to visit Heidi, The Milk Man's Wife. We'll be visiting the cheese curd capital of Wisconsin, searching for my grandfather's one-room schoolhouse and eating pie at the Norski Nook. Join me in these little adventures. "On the Road...... will not be updated as frequently as this blog but I promise that it will be interesting.

We're purchased two Chevy's from Bob Jass Chevy in Elburn in the last year. The Farmer claims that he's single-handedly trying to save GM.

Tell me something about your Thanksgiving celebration. Did everything go well? Any disasters? Family arguments? I'm all ears.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I'll see you early tomorrow morning for the shrimp boil. Meeting adjourned.... now go get something done!!

Thanksgiving was a BLAST.

My uncle sleeps heavily, and apparently he talks in his sleep.

We were privy to his dreams for well over an hour. We laughed until we all, almost pee'd ourselves.

It was the highlight of the day.

I have a blue transferware plate almost exactly like that! TJ Maxx got me hooked on brown this past autumn, but I've only got 4 plates so far. It's nice to have a mission when shopping, isn't it?

Our Thanksgiving was pleasant. We went out to eat at a country restaurant with dh, dd and my fil. Can't complain. I cooked a turkey breast for dinner last night. And now I'm done with turkey for another year. Bring on the Christmas beef!

That transferware is quite a find!

Surprisingly, all the relatives (or those brought by relatives) I was worried about behaved themselves quite well this Thanksgiving. Now if we can just get through Christmas Eve at dh's maternal grandmother's...

That photo of snow in the streets takes me back to 1940 something. Don't you find that interesting since I wasn't alive then? LOL! Anyway, I just love that shot.

Glad that you all had a great time with your daughter.

Another blog? Oh wow! It should be fun, but please remember to point us in the right direction. ;>

I thought I'd check in during the Monday Morning staff meeting to let you know that I receive the book you sent to me. It has a lot of really cute ideas in it. I am going to copy a few of them that I loved and then pass it on to my cousin who saw it at Thanksgiving dinner and liked a few things in there for her to make.
Thank you so much!!!!

Lovely thanksgiving - good food and wonderful family - and then two days later the electricity went out in half of our house - thankfully it didn't go out on Thanksgiving. The electrician can't come out until tomorrow so we are doing without kitchen lights and a furnace (thermostat is on the half of the house with no electricity) Tried changing the breaker - no luck - apparently there is a loose wire or a short someplace. At least the weather is pleasant - two years ago it was 9 degrees for a high and we had 3 feet of snow - very unusual for this part of the country.

Hi Suzanne!

I sure missed visiting you while I was gone :)

That town picture looks like something out of a movie! Beautiful!!

I'm glad someone is saving GM. In Arizona the car dealers are doing a buy one get another for a dollar deal. Can you believe that??

Thanksgiving for us was chaotic and wonderful. I'm glad you had a great time at your daughter's house :)

I'm off to take a look at your other blog....

Big hugs,
rue

A road trip blog!
Oh my gawd, this gives me a reason to wake up in the morning!
I am SO excited.

Oh, I really like the brown dishes too.

No relatives, just all friends at Thanksgiving. We played apples to apples, it's a fun game with few rules.

A little shopping early Saturday morning before things got crowded. Heard one of my all time favorite songs in the store- Baby it's cold outside. I like the Doris Day and Bing Crosby version.

Your snowy picture is beautiful.

Even though I hate being cold I still think there's nothing more beautiful than snow newly fallen. Another blog? How in the world do you find the time Suzanne? I'm sure I'll be hooked on it just like I am on this one! blessings, marlene

Heidi - What do you think? Will Milk Dud be milking cows by the time I get up there? Thanksgiving at Granny's? Perfect.

Chocolatechic - I'm so glad that your Thanksgiving was so much fun. You gotta love those dreamtime conversations.

Thirkellgirl - I think the pattern is called "Stratford Stage". A mission is a good thing because it keeps you from getting sidetracked into buying more shoes. Unless your mission IS shoes. Going out to eat is a good thing except for the fact that there aren't any leftovers to enjoy. I'm with you.... on to the beef.

Jenni - Can you believe that I momentarily hestitated before putting it into a cart? I don't know about you but I'm always holding my breath that the family stays on their best behavior...not MY immediate family but those extended members.

Vee - Yes it does look very vintage. The streets around her loft are line with historical buildings. I will notify everyone when there's a new road trip adventure up and running.

Dara - I'm so glad the book got to you safely and that you've found something useful to glean from it. What a great idea to pass it along.

Pieceful Afternoon - I don't think I've ever heard of electricity going off in half a house. You made history I think. I hope it's back on soon.

Rue - I think it looks like something out of "A Christmas Story". What do you think? Buy one, one for a dollar? I'm sure they're jacking the price up somewhere.

Marilyn - YES a road trip blog that involves searching for and eating pie! Now that's something to look forward to.

Jeanette - I love that song too. Perhaps I need to play it tomorrow.

Significant Snail - I should enlist you to be my navigator.

Mary - I think if there are no stories it just means it was a nice, peaceful family time.

Marlene - Truly, there's nothing more magical than a fresh snowfall especially if it's a "magical diamond sparkling snowfall". Yes, there are different kinds of snow. This one was actually wet and heavy.

Joanna - There's plenty of room in my Equinox for you. Hop aboard.

Thanks everyone for visiting and sharing your Thanksgiving stories!
