I have been having trouble with spam as well. Maybe not as much as you, but I am thinking about putting word verification on my comments as well.
Darned old spammers. I'm with you...I do believe that Blogger might be able to do more about it. I'll let you know if I mind the word verification...as long as it's not three steps, turn left, and run around a tree, I might be able to cope.
