The Part Where the Author Asks Her Readers For Suggestions

As you know, my brain is on a leave of absense. The time stamp on this post will read somewhere around 3:10 a.m. and yes, I cannot sleep.....so much on my mind and on my list of things to do. I'll go back to bed in a little while but not before asking you for some suggestions.

A week from Sunday I will attend a small holiday party with my new co-workers. They've decided to do a grab bag gift exchange with a limit of $15. Usually I can come up with something but in the midst of coordinating home health care nurses and physical therapists for the Other Mother the creative thinking portion of my brain has checked out.

Can you help me? I need inspiration. I need ideas.

It's a grab bag so the gift must be appropriate for anyone that might receive it. My co-workers range in age from 22 to 70, seven women and one young man (the 22-yr. old).

Have you participate in this types of exchanges in the past? What's been successful?

Thanks so much for your help because believe me, at this point in my life I need all the help I can get.

How about a small gift bag filled with games...cards, dice, uno, LRC (that dice game that comes in a tube). Everyone enjoys having a game to pull out when company comes over. I understand the "creative juice" thing...hope yours returns soon. Merry Christmas!

Honestly, I used to struggle with things like this but now I just give gift cards. Starbucks, Cracker Barrel, Panera... I'm always happy to get one and people seem to like getting one. Sorry about your stress. I'm right there with you. Let's go to breakfast at the Norske Nook in Hayward, ok? :)

I was going to go with a mug from Starbucks and a gift certificate. You do have a local Starbucks? A local whatever.the.hot.spot.may.be.

Hope that the scheduling settles into a working routine, my dear. It gets really exciting with the ringing phone, the changed times, the latecomers, the early comers, and the list goes on. I'll tell you what you used to tell me: "Take some time just for you."

Gentle hugs...

I agree - a gift card is always appropriate. If you feel the need to make it look bigger, add a bag of homemade candy, cookies, etc. Or some homemade hot cocoa mix.
It's funny how we can always seem to help someone else come up with gift ideas, but seem to get stuck on our own list. Hope your stress level becomes more manageable.
Peace,
Kay

I agree with the suggestions of a gift card. I'm really big on gift cards -- let people have a little shopping trip or a meal out or coffee or whatever, what's not to like about that? :)
Starbuck's, Target, a bookstore, restaurant, whatever strikes your fancy. It's always fun to get a gift card.
I hope that your life calms down a bit and that you have a chance for a little holiday cheer yourself.
Take care and try to relax when you can!

I just came from a luncheon "grab bag" gift exchange. What fun it was but this was not the first for this group. Ours was either a "re-gift" or a $5. gift. Then we played Naughty Santa and you could steal someone else's gift if you wanted it. $15? How about some of your great items you make? I would love to get one of those if I were going.

I would go with something you've knit/crocheted. Especially if it's an exchange/stealing game.
Or, a mug with a package of tea or coffee; some nice chocolates; a couple of wooden spoons, or other kitchen utensils tied together with a ribbon, maybe a spaghetti spoon and a package of spaghetti.

I agree with the gift certificate. And I love to give away something edible. My fav here is a good cocolate like Zotter or something more crazy like a really hot barbeque sauce.

I just picked up one of those mini "everyting tools" at an outdoor sporting good shop ($9.95). It has plyers, sizzors, a screw driver, knife, saw and bottle opener... it folds up to about 4" and can fit in your pocket, purse, sewing/fishing box or the glove compartment of your car. I thought it was a practical gift or any age or any person.
Merry & Happy Everything!

How about a four or six inch rosemary start decorated with little paper stars or origami cranes? Wrap it up with a nice new floursack dishtowel. Everyone can use fresh herbs and clean towels, right?

How about a bag of microwave popcorn, a giant candy bar and a $5 dvd from the bin at WM? Or a gift card- those seem to be popular in my family.

After a long day (just had another one)there is nothing I like better then one of those "hot socks" that you microwave and then wrap around your neck. It takes out all the tension and puts me right to sleep! I bought two as gifts at TJ Max yesterday.
