Vacation Curse

Photobucket

Here's a picture of some whole wheat egg noodles I made a couple weeks ago. I thought this image was as good as any for you to ponder while I crawl into the fetal position and writhe in pain.

I'm now convinced there is a "vacation curse" over me, but I'm not quite sure why. Last year on our cruise I got violently ill the very first day. They wheeled me down to the medical department in a wheelchair and the staff didn't as much blink...they knew I had that virus that plagues cruise ships. Got a shot and some pills, free bottled water from the cruise line (big deal) and a 3-day quarantine in my cabin. That's OK I couldn't have lifted myself out of bed anyway.

If you've been reading you know that we're leaving for St. Croix on Saturday. Last week I had the stomach flu and thought oh goodie I got sick in ADVANCE this year. But on Monday I had this very wierd pain in my neck, like someone was driving a straight pin into it. Then it was a wierd soreness when I moved my neck and last night all hockey-sticks broke out. I've got a very high tolerance for pain but this was in a league I never knew existed.

Somehow I got through the night and since the farmer is out of town I drove myself to the urgent care office to be there the minute the doors opened at 7 a.m. Dr. Kahn was so nice and could see on my face that I was in trouble. In under five minutes he realized I had shingles. I've heard of them, my uncle had a terrible case of them and in retrospect I'm stunned at what he suffered at his advanced age.

Just believe me, you never want to experience this. So I'm off to take the big guns - Darvocet and THREE ADVILS! Yep, the big guns.

Oh you poor thing. I've known two people who've had this terrible condition and they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy! You take care of yourself, rest and take those pain meds!

Oh, Suzanne! I'm so sorry. A friend had them last year and I could see in his face how painful it was...I hope it clears up quickly. Goodness...

And I hope that you're also on whatever medication it is that knocks those shingles out stat.
So glad that you didn't suffer without going to the doctor because it'll make all the difference.

I've got to go back and see when you're leaving.

Take continued good care of yourself...

Ahhh, the 23rd, glad that you have some time for recouping. How's the farmer with packing?

Thanks everyone, for your thoughts. The pain med is working and I'm hopeful that it will not interfere with our vacation.

Vee - He works such long hours and have been on the road traveling so I'm more than happy to pack for him. That's a good thing because the real answer to your question is that he's terrible. Throws stuff in a bag 20 minutes before we leave!
