Bigger Fish to Fry

Yesterday I promised a cake baking marathon. You were going to bring your best apron and help me bake a cute bunny cake. Late yesterday afternoon I pulled out the pan and knew instantly that I had a problem. It's been several years since I've done this and I simply couldn't remember if you put a whole lot of batter into one pan, cover it with the second pan and allow the batter to grow, filling both and creating one whole cake......or if I baked two halves and glued them together with frosting later.

I almost published a "HELP!" post but my 86-year old live-in mother-in-law informed me that she wanted to bake the cakes this year....one bunny and one lamb. OK, I figured I'd let her do that. We'll just see if she has better cake baking luck than I do.

Besides, the snowstorm had subsided a bit and I decided to go out and grab some hamburgers from Chili's for dinner. THAT'S when I discovered I had bigger fish to fry than baking stinking bunny cakes.

So, let's go back a bit to Thursday, which was a beautiful sunny day. The temperature got up to almost 50 degrees, which for us was a veritable heat wave. My car was covered with berry goop from the Hawthorne tree whose branches hang over my side of the driveway. I drove to the nearby car wash and rinsed the car clean as whistle and drove home feeling all good about myself. You see, this is where I usually get myself into trouble....feeling all good and proud. What is it they say, pride comes before a fall?

Friday morning you'll remember, we woke to a snowstorm. I made waffles for the farmer and his son before they headed off to work. I watched out the window all day as the snow fell. It blew sideways and for a few hours it snowed in great waves as if someone was shaking a giant salt shaker over the landscape. It was beautiful and I felt safe and happy that I didn't have to leave the house. But like I said, late in the afternoon I decided to venture out for some hamburgers.

See that??? What do you think that is?

A sunroof you say? Well, you're right! An open sunroof. In the heat of the 50 degree afternoon I opened it, pulled in the driveway and promptly forgot about it.

All day yesterday, when I was inside feeling all warm and happy, it was snowing and snowing and snowing and snowing...inside my car!

It wasn't too bad. I only had a foot on the driver's side and about 6 inches on the passengers side where I put cute little Cosco red and chrome step stool I found at Goodwill the other day.

I couldn't stop laughing. My son heard me from inside the house and came running. He just shook his head because well, as he says, "That's mom for you!" I quickly scooped what I could from the driver's side but had to rush because I'd ordered the burgers over the phone and need to get there fast. I was scooping up handfuls of snow from the passenger side and tossing the snowballs out the window. Now THAT'S a sight you don't see everyday.

I'm not too concerned about the car. It's ten years old and has seen everything, a small snowdrift isn't going to rock her world. She's parked in the garage right now drying out adn regaining her composure.

I promise some pictures of the bunny cake.....that is, if it turns out.

Tomorrow is a trip in the Way Back Machine. Don't miss it.

I had to cry a little and laugh a little! You couldn't have made that story up as they say!
I hope today you're having a wonderful day.

I laugh, because I've been there. Although it was rain, not snow.

Uhm, talk about a wet derriere. Snort.

Sooo, how much white stuff did you get? Down here in the southwest burbs we got dusted.

Carletta, my life is a constant stream of tears and laughter. I did mention my 87 yr. old mother-in-law lives with me, right?

Thanks Aunt Jo, we shall have a blessed day. The cards are on their way!

KatKit - I did the water long before I did the snow. My little MGB had about 4 inches. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up the carpeting to find they provided a drain plug for just that purpose!

Wow, that is pretty funny!

Happy Easter. I have a lamb pan as well, takes a ton of cake mix to fill it and its rarely even close to perfect.. not that I'm a cake genius or anything.

Oh no...hahahahaha! Gosh, okay, I can forgive you for not having the bunny cake up and at'em. (I've already baked my coconut-trifle- thingy-that-wasn't-good-enough-to win-a-prize anyway.) I'll just have to count on your mother-in-law! (So how old is she? 86? 87?)

Gosh, I would've loved to watch you clean out your car. Hahahahahahahaha...

A blessed Easter to you and yours!

Vee, she's 86 but close enough to 87 that I just bumped her up! I'm posting a picture of the cake now.

Everyone have a blessed easter.
