Mish Mosh Monday

In his story "A Christmas Memory" author Truman Capote referred to his elderly aunts as "the others". I thought it was a good idea so from here on out I'll be referring to the elderly person in our household as "the other".

Overheard in my kitchen yesterday:

The Other - "There's some Italian wedding cake soup I heated up on the stove. Help yourself."

Me - "Er, uh....no. Thanks for the offer though.....(under breath) "wedding cake soup???"

I open up my e-mail to find there were 666 messages in my box. That's not good. I hastily deleted a bunch of old e-mails in at attempt to thwart danger. An hour later....666 messages. This happened four times! What it tells you is that I have a serious problem straighting up my online house.

Look at this -

What do you think this is?

It's the monthly stats for my photoblog site. What???? I've been plugging along for three years on that site, sweating my creative guts out producing "serious art". I'm lucky to get 100 views per day and wham!.....all of a sudden I've got 1,800 views. This must be how it feels to be the Pioneer Woman. No wait....she gets 1,800 comments and a gajillion views. So what's behind the big wave over at the Farmer's Wife? Did I publish some Pulitzer prize winning contender? NO, it's the stinking fried oreos again! Someone picked up on it and posted it on their political blog. Don't ask me, I don't know what the stinking oreos have to do with politics but I'll take the numbers regardless.

I visited the Kane County Flea Market yesterday, sizing up the lay of the land since my sister and I are putting together a booth for next month's show. After hopping around blogland in the last week I can tell you it's not Round Top or Warrenton or Marburger, but it's all we've got. I'll take you on a nice tour of the flea market later in the week but for Mish Mosh Monday I'll share this image:

This shows the folly of youth and the wisdom of age in one swoop. This young woman somehow thought it would be a good idea to wear a pair of kitten heels to the fairgrounds. The dusty, dirty, gravel-infested, pothole covered fairgrounds. She'll pay for her transgression...heh, heh, heh. In contrast behind her you'll see a woman with a baby stroller. She's wearing sensible atheltic shoes. 'Nuff said.

Here's a recipe for you. I'm not sure how someone came up with the name Goose Butter because I can't figure it out.

Photobucket

UPDATE: Vee wanted some photos of the Goose Butter. I have a confession to make - I've never tried this recipe before. So....I baked a batch up this morning. Here's the layering.

Photobucket

And what it looks like when it comes out of the oven.

The bottom portion is really chocolately and has the texture of a good brownie. The top is creamy and sweet but I'm thinking with the eggs and cream cheese it should be more of a cheesecake type texture.

Unfortunately I'm having difficulties with my oven. My biscuits are brown on the outside and not quite done on the inside. So if you try this recipe let me know if your results are different. Bon Appetite!

Glad that you discovered the reason behind the spike. I never know what causes those spikes. Don't much care to find out either I guess. And there's absolutely zip correlation between comments and spikes.

"The Other" sounds so, so, LOST!

If you bake that recipe, can you show us a pic? I can't even imagine what it is.

Have a terrific day, Suzanne.

They look good. Course anything with sugar in it looks good to me. I'll snag it and give it a whirl sometime soon. My oven's no prize either.

Hello! I saw your comment on Mary's blog today so I came over to check out yours! So glad I did! Oh I had some good laughs! Especially over the county fair pics - comfy shoes vs. ridiculous shoes! Also adored the family trip photo, those beautiful farm pics and your recipes got me in the mood for baking! Thanks, I really enjoyed my vist! :) ~ Laurie
