Basking in the Glow

I'm not really here this morning. I'm coming to you from the miracle of Blogger's new option which allows you to schedule a post in advance. Hooray for technology.

The Farmer actually had to work yesterday and I joined him at the main herb farm in the evening. We were invited to a Fourth of July celebration given by a really great chef. Yes ladies, a chef was cooking dinner! Since the farm is near the chain of lakes, I'm sure there will be some interesting fireworks to watch. There will also be a big bonfire.

The weather report is calling for very cool temperatures and we're all hoping that the cool temps and the renowned Illinois wind will keep the mosquitos at bay. Regardless, I plan to have a good time. I'll be drinking a few of those Blue Hosta Martinis and the Farmer will be drinking German beer.

Since it's such a distance from our home we'll be staying at the "White House". Yeah, I would love a night in the Lincoln Bedroom but this is the other white house, the little farmhouse next to the herb packing building. You know the one that has the delivery trucks pulling in at 3 a.m.? Yes, that one.

The white house is used as a spot to hold seminars for customers, and cooking demonstrations using the herbs. Do you know what that means?? Be still my heart. The tiny little white farmhouse has a ....

MULTI BURNER VIKING RANGE!!!!!

Long after the Farmer has gone to bed I will be sitting in a chair in front of the Viking, basking in the glow of multi-burner awesomeness!!!

(Is that a real word? If not I'm sure my Grammar Nazi will be sending me a hot e-mail.)

Wherever you are, whatever you're basking in front of, have a wonderful time! It sounds like fun...well, all except for the trucks arriving at 3 a.m.

I would so be getting a sleeping back and parking myself in front of the viking reading cookbooks from the basking glow. Ahhh, a vision of perfection!

You have my tongue hanging out at the mention of the herb garden - I love herbs! I would love to see some of your herb recipes. I haven't been all the way through your archive yet, so I'm not sure if you have posted recipes before, but I'm on the lookout for them.

Oh Viking! I live in Mississippi where they are made so we are all Viking fans here. Viking is building a cooking school down the road from my house... I'm giddy with excitement!!!!

Viking! Nice!

When I first heard of Viking, I thought a friend was telling me that her kitchen has such antiquated appliances, it was like living like the Vikings 500 years ago.

Needless to say, I know now what Viking is. And I hope that someday I might be living like the Vikings, too.

Wow a Viking Range... oh how I one day dream about owning one of those...

And a post from afar? I need to try one of those someday!

I'll pull up a chair and we can drool together.

Vee - I was so tired I never even heard the trucks.

Heidi - Yes it is serious stuff. There are other cool commercial ranges but Viking is good enough in my book. The farm grows almost all the common herbs; basil, oregano, cilantro, summer savor, lemon grass, sage, Italian flat leaf parsley, tarragon, rosemary and also edible flowers.

Kimmy - Now THAT'S a great idea - reading cookbooks by the glow of the Viking!!

Bobbi - I'm going to have to start posting some recipes using herbs. And also recipes for edible flowers.

Heather - Pull up a chair, well bask together.

Deanna - I didn't know they're made in Mississippi. Do they have a factory store? I'd be really excited about the cooking school. I hope it's open to the public.

Karen - Yet another Viking fan weighs in. Woo hoo!

Mamasphere - That's funny. I probably would have thought the same thing.

Jill - Scheduling the posts to publish while you're gone is pretty easy.

Red Shoes - There's plenty of room, Heather will move over just a big and make a space for you.
