Back to Bed

I dragged myself up this morning to finish the processing on the photos of the cathedral in Mazatlan. The truth is, the Farmer has passed along the flu that had put him flat on his back for five days.

I'm not going to be able to do the cathedral justice until I'm feeling better. I promise you it's spectacular and worth the wait.

Now, let me ask you..... do you get a flu shot?

The only time I got one I got sick as a dog. I didn't get one this year and I'm sick as a dog.

What's a dog to do?

Go back to bed.

I hope you're feeling better soon! No one in our immediate family gets or has ever gotten the flu shot. Dh's aunt (who has cancer) and grandma both get it. The thing about the flu shot is that it only covers some of the strains of the flu--whichever they predict will be more widespread for that year--and you may get one of the other strains. I also think there is a chance you could get the flu from the shot itself, but I'm not certain. Maybe it's completely ignorant of me, but it really creeps me out that they sometimes administer flu shots right in the grocery stores leading up to flu season.

Get better!

I try to get a flu shot. I've never gotten a full-blown flu the years I've had it (though I've been sick with other things). I don't get the flu every year I don't get the shot, but when I DO get it, it's bad... very bad... at least a month before I can function normally again, so it's worth it to me to get it. It's never made me sick (the shot).

I think it's even steven on whether you get a flu shot or not. I usually get them. This year I got it about Christmas and it befriended me till about the end of January. When I've had shots, I've gotten sick but not as bad as this past month was. So....who knows. Not sure it makes much difference.

I have a child with breathing issues, so flu shots all around at our house. Feel better soon.

It's not the flu shot that makes you sick.... It's because the flu shot only immunizes you to one strain of the flu, and if you are exposed to a different strain you will indeed get the flu.

My dad recommended I get a flu shot- but I heard people say what you wrote- that they had never been sick until they got the shot- so I decided not to tempt fate and just skip it..
Hope you feel better soon!!!!

I never get flu shots. I always hear people talk about how sick they got after getting one, so I skip it. I'm currently fighting a bad sinus infection that began Saturday week past. Ugh...
feel better soon!

I have gotten them and haven't gotten them. I've never noticed a huge difference but then maybe I never contracted the nasty strain of the flu when I didn't get one. This year I did not.

Sorry to hear that you're down with the flu... I hate the flu! I HAVE to have a flu shot... because of a compromised immune system. I skipped it this year because I'm not working and don't have a lot of contact with the public or kids right now. But I am sure that my new internist will insist that I have one in the fall.

Get better soon!

I don't get the shot every year, due to forgetfulness. The vaccine each year is for the flus the CDC thinks might be the most prevalent. Got a flu shot last November and no flu. My coworker never gets flu shots and did get a long lasting cold/flu. We work in a medical office and are exposed to lots of colds and flus.

Yes, the only time that I got a flu shot I was sick as a dog. I've not had either one for years. Perhaps I shouldn't be hanging around here so close.

Take care of yourself, Suzanne, the blog can wait.

I have had the flu shot for the past 4 or 5 years and I see a big difference. I don't get sick, or if I do, it's not as bad. (Hope I don't jinx myself by saying this !!)

Oh man...I am sorry.

I did not get the flu shot this year...and boy, have I been sick with everything that comes my way. Would I have done better if I got the shot? Who knows...

Sorry you're not feeling well. I don't get a flu shot. But I always curse myself if I do happen to get it and I vow that I will get the shot next year. But I don't. I think I don't because I usually hear on the news that you can catch other strains that aren't included in that years shots. So I figure it's a waste of time going to the Dr.

People can get sick from the flu shot because when a person is 'imunized' they have 2 types of vacines. modifed live vacine or dead vacine... modified live is the LIVING GERM. What I understand is the 'theory' behind it is that if you have a little bit of the virus - your body will build up the imunity to it... the dead virus works also, but for some reason they want to try the non-dead type. Its supose to get you a better imunity AND faster... I dont buy either reason for it personally.... sorry.. :)

I have gotten a flu shot ever since the hong kong flu closed No.IL univ. in Dec. 1968. I still remember wishing to die. I have never gotten the influenza since..even the year that my son got it and my doc said "you've had your shot Mom".

I've gotten the tummy / intestinal flu, but never the influenza

Get beter quickly, Suzanne

I have never gotten the flu shot. However, every time I have gotten the flu I wished I had! Get better soon!

(Modified live vaccines contains the virus that has been modified so it does not carry the disease but still stimulates immunity. They no more give a person the disease than the killed varieties do. I know it sounds like it would though.)

I ALWAYS get a flu shot. I skipped it one year, years ago, and got the flu and it was awful. Never again.

Hope you feel better SOON.

I am so sorry for you! Once my daughter and I had it together and we spent one week in bed together - actually that part was fun - she was about 4 or 5 at the time. So sorry you have been suffering with it.
