Monday Morning Staff Meeting

Good morning everyone. How was your weekend? I hope it was fun.

Are you hungry? This morning we're going to have toast with buttter and strawberry jam. There's nothing like a good piece of toast. I've got a couple loaves of nice potato bread and a four slice toaster. Help yourself.

Here's my toast story. Five years ago the Farmer and I went to Belize to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We spent two glorious weeks living in a thatched roof casita on the beach of an island that had no roads. I was pretty happy because it meant I didn't have to cook but the food was pretty forgettable.

We arrived home tired and hungry after many hours of travel. I walked into the house, dropped my luggage and marched right into the kitchen and made a piece of toast. It tasted so wonderful.

There's nothing like a nice piece of toast.

Do remember the sock monkey field trip and giveaway? Steph was the winner of the Rockford Red Heeled socks and sock monkey directions. Guess what? She's made a monkey and he's having adventures on her farm.

His name is Henry. Check out his Monkey Adventures in Alabama.

Steph also tagged me with the Honest Scrap award. It calls for me to tell you ten things about myself that you may not already know.

I have actually played this one before, but I can't find the previous list. Here's ten.

1. At one point in my life I had a top secret government clearance. (That is a source of great amusement to my children.)
2. I've had some hot, hot cars. (1970 Chevelle SS396, 1967 Pontiac Firebird, 1969 Chevy Camaro, 1975 Corvette, Baby Blue Karmann Ghia)
3. I rode a 750cc motorcycle.
4. We have lots and lots of books in our in-home library. (A thousand plus?)
5. I can lay floor tile.
6. I have climbed almost every major Mayan temple in North America.
7. I'm afraid of driving on bridges over water.
8. I'm not a morning person.
9. I have too many collections.
10. I talk too much.

Phew, I feel better.

You know the drill. If you'd like to play, consider yourself tagged.

I love Cake Wrecks. Some are good wrecks, some are bad. It's fun.

Our local food store has lots of cake wrecks. I saw one this evening. It was a hamburger cake! Sadly I didn't have my camera with me.

OOOPS....she does also feature nice cakes and that's what she's got up today. But check out this wreck:

MELTING CARROTS AND ASSORTED MEAT PRODUCT CAKES.

or, OOEY GOOEY WRECKS.

I'd like to introduce you to Sarah, who blogs from Hawaii. Her blog is called Aloha Spirit.

I'm sure you're thinking that living in Hawaii is paradise on earth. It's a beautiful location but since Sarah's family is a military family, they're on a budget. I have full sympathy of her situation, having been a military wife myself. Hawaii is a tremendously expensive place to visit or to live. Her and her family are waiting for base housing. In the meantime they're in a hotel. Again, it sounds great but honestly, could you live in a hotel? ........ with kids?

Follow along as she finds interesting and budget conscious things for her kids to do!

You should also check out the Stick Horse Cowgirls.

I love 'em.

I'm not crazy about Oprah but I'd bite my tongue and work for her if there's a chance for a free Mediterranean cruise worth $5,400. On second thought, maybe not.

And now I turn the meeting over to you.

Did you write something interesting yesterday?

What's new in your world?

EDIT - Early in the 1970's I worked for a company that was under government contract to produce technical manuals for Air Force jets. Since we were embroiled in the Vietnam War, all information related to jets and their maintenance was deemed top secret. I was living in Texas at the time and my mom (back in Illinois) was not amused when the FBI came calling asking questions about my background.

Okay, I went directly to the Cake Wreck blog and I saw zero cake wrecks. Everything I saw was amazing. This leaves me feeling confused, but what else is new...

I remember that top clearance thing. Hope that you had a wonderful time at the lake and where are those pics?

I am so curious as to what you were doing to get top secret clearance...

I didn't write anything interesting over the weekend, but I have a lovely picture of my girl today.

I love a perfect piece of toast.

The bread MUST be home made.

You MUST use real butter.

And it MUST be home made strawberry jam.

Vee - Omigosh....she had wonderful cakes up there today. I edited to link to some disasters. I guess she needs to post really nice ones so there's some contrast.

Chocolatechic - You have the hiccups again!

Oh, and I get failing marks. I didn't have any homemade bread or homemade jam.... but I did use real butter.

Top secret clearance checks are always fun, especially when the FBI rolls into a small town.

We are back at home from our journey and I am just glad to be checking up on everyone's happenings in life. I love some good orange marmalade on my toast.

Any chance it was the island of Ambergris Cay off of Belize? Been there. Beautiful. But, no toast!!

I too love a perfect piece of toast with the best butter I can find. Usually French or Irish butter. Mmmmm good! Right now for me though it is a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries.

My husband and I both had Top Secret government clearances at one time. We made guidance systems for AMRAM missles :) I also worked on a program for depth gauges on submarines.

Oh man! a Karmann Ghia? My first car was stolen and had 3 gears, reverse, 1st and 2nd, oh, and I had to sit on a 5 gallon bucket to drive, no seat.
Tile, would you like to come to my house and tile 3 bathrooms;)
The shine is off the apple where Oprah is concerned, even it it means a free cruise.
And I also love toast, this week I have sourdough.

No I didn't write anything today. I cooked and stood in those hot sweaty things until my feet went numb and felt sorry for myself. Well, you asked.

Okay - yes, I love toast (not too light, not too dark) with loads of butter and home canned blackberry or marionberry jam (cause I have a life-threatening allergy to strawberries - :(). BUT - better still? On a toasted croissant! OH MY!

I would do the list of ten things, but I'm in too much pain right now. Sorry. Here's hoping the pain goes away post haste and then I can get right on it!

Interesting thing I wrote this weekend? Hmmm... well, I posted a great Carnitas recipe on Friday - I seriously love this stuff. Then on Saturday I posted about arm pits - 'cause they're a cause of constenation for me. And on Sunday I posted about the evil dogs that (I believe) killed my chicken this week, that belong to the not very concerned new neighbor.

I did once have a friend who worked for the CIA. Really. He had some super higher echelon clearance. He used to use the far overused line, "I could tell you what I do for a living, but then I'd have to kill you." I never did learn what it was that he did. But it must have been a big deal - cause seriously, not even his mother knew!

Awesome post.
One question about the toast.
How do you eat just one piece?

Come see me,
Laura

Your top secret clearance is fun, especially because of your kids.

Love your "on second thought" about Oprah. I agree!
