A Day at the Lake

The Farmer and I snagged an invitation to a friend's Wisconsin lake house for a day of fun in the sun. Yes, we're that close to Wisconsin. It's just a hop, skip and a jump to the dairy state. For the past hundred years residents of northern Illinois and Chicago have escaped to Wisconsin for the weekend.

I guess my question is, where do the people from Wisconsin escape to? Chicago?

It's just a day getaway with some good neighbors and friends. The kind of stuff that memories are made of.

I remember back in the day when everyone went on picnics. They were all day affairs old quilts for laying in the shade and napping. There were bats and balls and badminton nets. We all gathered at a forest preserve or local lake and the only cost was the gas and the food, prepared at home and brought along in big red picnic baskets.

I hope you have some equally fun plans for this weekend.

See you tomorrow.

Any chance you'll make it to Heidi's when I'm there? BTW, when we lived in WI, we escaped to the UP of Michigan

Wisconsin was the one place we went regularly for "vacation". Livestock farmers don't get to go on vacation for long. We would pack up for a weekend getaway while Grandpa took care of the hogs for us. We'd go up to the Mineral Point area to spend our time fishing and swimming in my Uncle's mining lakes. That was some cold water and some might delicious fish! We would love to retire to Wisconsin, crazy as that sounds.

HAVE FUN!!! The lake is my FAVORITE weekend activity. I haven't done it since moving to NM nearly 7 years ago. But NEXT weekend, some friends with boat invited us. I know I'll be sitting doing nothing, looking at the water saying "This is the life." I haven't said that since I moved, because there is no life like lake life!

My daughter lives in Iowa, and they generally escape to Minnesota or Upper Michigan.

Right now it's too darn hot here to be outside - it's been over 105 on my deck for the last four days, and that's on the lake side of the house! And by the way, I think I need to be added to your peeps as your First Retirement Home Friend! blessings, marlene

I live in Wisconsin and when we would go on vacation we would go up north to a lake cottage and spend a wonderful week of swimming and laying around reading. Also another place for Wisconsinites to go is to Door County. Wonderful vacation spot.
