The Corn Drop Under the Blue Moon

New Year's Eve in rural Illinois can only mean one thing, it's time for the Corn Drop!

I aplogize that the photos are pulled from past drops, but the camera problem still have not been resolved.

It's not a UFO, it's the corn.

A giant ear of corn is perched on the top of a 20 foot poll.

Each year the display is changed in some way Once there was a disco ball and DJ station. This year there were little Christmas trees blinking on and off to the beat of the music. It's good old fashioned engineering at it's best.

There's food and party hats galore.

Neighbor Ed is my favorite bartender. He always remembers, gin and tonic with a twist of lime.

Other neighbors arrive just before midnight to join in the countdown.

We bundle up and gather outside with our glasses of champagne and wait for the countdown.

The corn begins is descent down the pole.

Happy New Year!!!

Thanks for joining in our small community effort to ring in the New Year. Celebrations don't always need to be big, spashly and slick. Sometimes the simplest celebrations can be the best.

Happy New Year, Suzanne!

At least you weren't all hovering around your computer looking at a live stream of Times Square. What a rotten time for your camera/s to be on the fritz with a blue moon that you actually got to see.

Better a Corn Drop than a Walleye Drop....unless you're into fish.

Was it a blue moon this month? I really should keep better track of celestial events, no?

Happy New Year!

Looks like a lot of fun!
Sadly, there was no lingering outside to enjoy the blue moon up here - it was -35 last night. But still lots of fun with friends and family last night and today.

That is SO cool! We had the 'body drop' - our poor, tired, achey bodies dropping on to the sofas trying desperately to stay awake! The kids had no problem but the adults and the dogs.....it was a struggle. Thanks for sharing!
