I swear you can find the most obscure information on the web.
Everyone knows that a group of geese is called a gaggle but yesterday I began wondering if there was a name for their V-shaped flying formation.
Yes, there is. It's called a skein.
A Skein of Canada Geese
Late yesterday afternoon, as the sun was dipping towards the horizon, the sky literally filled with Canada Geese. Their bodies appeared black against the strong blue sky.
It was a sign of hope. It can only mean one thing. When the geese fly north once again, spring is close behind.
There's only one problem. The geese were NOT flying north.
They were flying west/northwest.
Which can only mean one thing.
They're stopping to gamble at the riverboats in Dubuque.
Damn geese! They're gonna delay spring with their nonsense.

Happy Saturday!
Never knew that. Not a fan of geese, but I am a fan of spring.
cute, maybe it's just a detour.
well that certainly made me laugh this morning...so how do we get those geese back on the right track???
Hahahhahaha...I thought they might be heading for Vancouver. A skein, eh? Hope that I can remember that bit of obscure information.
bwahahahahahahahaha!
I've seen them take off to the casino many times myself! teehee! I do know it is a skein and it always amazes me how the leader goes to the back and lets another one take the lead for a while. Incredible formations! Thanks for the laugh!
Amiable brief and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you on your information.

Im sitting here laughing......thats funny.....damn geese!
When I lived in BC's Okanagan Valley, the geese didn't leave for the winter ... just flew from one lake or pond to another. Now that REALLY confused the arrival of spring! LOL!
I saw 4 robins while downstate (Detroit area) visiting my daughter and grand daughter today, I am thinking they probably have been there all winter, but it was nice to see them anyway. Spring will be here soon!
Pam
That was funny but I have had geese in the corn field all winter does that mean it has really been spring and I didn't know it, your right those geese are confusing!!
They're always coming up with weird names for groups of animals. A group of fish is called a School. Imagine that, fish are forced to be in schools they're whole lives! Other groups of animals are called herds. Geez, I think we just like coming up with new words.
Giggling over this post.

The Blue Ridge Gal
Oh wow! Look at them all!
I'd love to see sights like that here!
Not only was that informational, but very funny...thank you! :)
I haven't seen any yet, and we live north of Dubuque. I'll keep you posted.
