Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

Today we're going to talk about an important element of the sleep process. But first, here's what greeted me this morning when I was cooking pancakes for The Farmer.

Photobucket

Isn't that a happy, clever packaging idea? That's the pouring lid on a bottle of Hungry Jack pancake syrup. It certainly made me smile.

Ok, here's the thing. I'm one of those crazy people that you see in the airport, dragging their pillow all over the planet. YES! I take my pillow with me.

I can't remember ever having a preference concerning pillows when I was younger but about 10 years ago (maybe longer) I met a pillow that converted me and made a zealot. It's my crunchy pillow, filled with buckwheat hulls.

When I first saw them advertised in the store I thought it was a totally crazy idea. Why in the world would I want a pillow that sounded like it was filled with corn flakes? Why, indeed. I didn't buy one, but my mother gave me one and I was instantly hooked.

The Farmer sleeps on a super soft smushy pillow that resembles the Staypuff marshmallow man. That's not for me.

The last time I was traveling alone, I stopped at a Hampton Inn and was surprised at the pillow arrangement on the bed. It was a new hotel and was decorated in the manner of a boutique hotel. The bed was so inviting and the pillows were piled high. There were two cardboard signs, folded and placed on the bed, announcing the fact that the pillows on the left were firm and on the right were soft. What a great idea but still, I had my own pillow tucked in my suitcase.

Somehow, in addition to the one large buckwheat pillow I've acquired two small ones. They are my own personal Great Wall of Buckwheat. I arrange them in a semi-circle and plop my head right in the middle. It lifts my head up off the bed and supports it perfectly, molding itself around my head. Like I said, I'm addicted to this pillow.

So when you see me in the airport, clutching my crunchy pillow, just say HI!

How about you? What is your preference? Soft, firm or crunchy?

Come back tomorrow and I'll show you how to make your own designer pillowcase. If you're a sewer there will be a chance for you to participate in a wonderful opportunity to help others.

I like firm pillows. Haven't tried the buckwheat pillows, but maybe I should.

The syrup cap is great! Who wouldn't enjoy an extra smile to start their day? *Ü*

That syrup cap is brilliant and makes me want to buy Hungry Jack syrup and I only get the real stuff and squirm every time my son pours half the (tiny) bottle on his pancakes!

Hmm...pillow preference...
Well Captain Marvel uses this old, yucky, lumpy, thing that I'd like to incinerate. He refuses to replace the THING! I prefer a thicker pillow and mine needs replacing, so I'm off to check out ALL the options now! Keep smiling.

I have never even HEARD of a buckwheat pillow but it sounds very interesting! I sleep on a firm pillow that has some give to it...and yes, we travel with our pillows, doesn't everyone! heehee! ♥

Soft for me.

However, I have seen this pillow and thought someone was just having fun with the consumer. Good to know it is real.

I want to go and get some Hungry Jack now~

My pillow is memory foam and I didn't like it at first. Now I can't sleep without it?

And I will from this day forward buy Hungry Jack syrup. The smile just made my day:)

I always liked a firm pillow until my neck began to protest. Now I use the softest, mushiest pillow I can get. I still buy them for a big price when J.C. Penney's has a white sale. I think they should be $1.50; they're not.

What a great cap on the syrup. Someone was thinking! Such a little thing and yet...

I have had the same pillow for over 10 years, which I'm sure is probably not healthy, lol. I got it from my Aunt, who had found it in an antique store. She was using it in a spare bedroom. I traded a pillow for it. I wish I knew what it was, or what was in it, because I would love to buy a new one! It's pretty flat, and you can smoosh it into pretty much whatever shape you want to. I think it maybe has feathers in it, but its not one of those fluffy pillows. It weighs 5 lbs! Almost reminds me of a half empty bag of birdseed. I don't know why I love that thing, lol.

I was at Ikea last year, laughing at the fact they had different pillows for tummy, side, and back sleepers. Then I tried one of the tummy pillows. I LOVED it. It goes with me wherever I go now. It's full, but mushy, and it morphs quite willingly into whatever shape I need it to be. I love my pillow. I'm sorry for mocking you, Ikea.

I love my Tempurpedic pillow. The normal kind, not the one with the space for your head. I forgot in our camper earlier this year and I went sleepless for 3 months until I finally got it back. (Yes, I need to buy one just for the camper.)

Hmmm, I've never tried a "crunch" pillow, but I do like my head elevated at night--I use TWO pillows! And I do love satin pillowcases!

Steph, my mama used a feather pillow and it too was pretty flat but still weighed a ton. You could "fluff" it up and it would be bigger for a day or two but always ended up flat and a dead weight. But I admire you and my mother's loyalty!

Been using sobakawa buckwheat pillows for 20 years. Never go anywhere on vacation without my little pillows. My husband says they sound like rice krispies. My neck problems went away and they dispurse heat so they were a revelation during that "time of life" when my thermostat seemed to be broken. Last time I ought the new ones everyone in the family wanted one. That was a heavy Fed Ex package!!
