The Postcard Project

It's summer and back in the day that meant postcards would be flying across the country. I always loved getting postcards and my love for them turned me into a Johnny Jennie Appleseed of sorts. I've hosted a couple of projects since I started blogging here but the roots of the project go way back. Here's an explanation I wrote from one of my previous projects.

The Postcard Project is something I started when I first connected with the internet about 10 years ago. There was no such thing as a blog back then but I was involved with a forum that was made up of an online community of gardeners.

The Farmer and I had planned a vacation somewhere, can't even remember where. I knew how much I always loved to get postcards from people who were traveling, especially when I was a stay-at-home mom with no prospects of going anywhere except to the pediatrician. And so the Postcard Project was born.

I told my online friends that if they wanted to participate I would send them a postcard from our vacation spot. You know the typical "Wish you were here."

It was quite popular and became a tradition through the years. Some of you participated last spring when the Farmer and I went to St. Croix. Those participants can attest to the fact that I won't sell your names and addresses to Publisher's Clearing House. In fact, after I send off the postcards I shred the addresses and made a nice omelet and eat them!!!

I've got plenty of postcards to share and I can get more if I need them.

It's simple. Just e-mail me and put "Postcard Project" in the subject line so that my computer doesn't think you're a spam attack and don't forget to include your address. Here's my e-mail address:

Abscissa63@aol.com

This opportunity expires on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. I'll be sending out the postcards shortly after that. And no, unfortunately we're not going anywhere and there are no postcards commemorating our "nine miles from anywhere" community. But we do live about 50 miles from everything - Chicago. So chances are you'll be receiving a card from there.

A note to lurkers: This is your chance to lower the force field for a moment. You don't even need to leave a comment, just e-mail me.

I can't wait to receive your postcard. Would you like us to send you one as well? I even have one stamp left over from the girls latest round of postcrossing.
