Monday Morning Staff Meeting

Good morning everyone. Thanks for joining me here for the Monday Morning Staff Meeting.

For those of you who haven't attended before, this is a time when we share little interesting tidbits that we've come across during the week and have something wonderful to eat.

Sorry, but this week I'm going to be serving something that gross. Totally gross looking. I don't know, it might taste OK in very small bits but that remains to be seen.

Have you ever heard of a Turducken? It's a turkey stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken. It's simply too much. A turkey tastes fine, a duck tastes fine and a chicken tastes fine but put them all together...... too much.

This morning I'm presenting the bakery version of a Turducken. I'm providing lots of spoons and we can all take a virtual taste and decide for ourselves. The Pummple is fron the Flying Monkey bakery in Philadelphia and runs $75 for a whole cake. One slice is 1,800 calories. Just think, you won't have to eat anything else today!

What is that, you ask? Well, on the bottom is a layer of chocolate cake with an entire pumpkin pie baked inside! The top layer is yellow cake with an entire apple pie baked inside. The glue that holds this creation together is about 3 lbs. of buttercream frosting.

OH ..... MY...... GOODNESS!!!

You think that's bad. Someone's done another version called a Cherpummple.

From the bottom up:
Cherry pie inside a chocolate cake layer.
Pumpkin pie inside a gingerbread layer.
Apple pie inside a yellow cake layer.

The buttercream seems to be having a problem keeping the cake together.

What do you think about these creations. Would you try it? Would you serve it to guests?

In case you missed it, my niece Heaether-the-librarian left a comment to let me know that access to Ancestry.dot.com is free at most public libraries.

I did not know that so now we'll be able to search without that monthly fee. Thanks Heaether!

What do you think about these compact fluorescent light bulbs?

They're weird. I hate 'em. I guess we're going to save the planet (doubtful since these bulbs contain mercury!!) but we're gonna save the planet whilst bathed in a wierd yellowish/green glow.

Did I mention I hate fluorescent lighting?

The bulb on our front porch gives off about 2 watts of light until it warms up. Know what I'm talking about? In cold weather we'll be waiting 30 minutes until we get the full 65 watts of light.

The kitchen bulbs in the recessed fixtures are equally weak but when they heat up it feels like you're on a beach on Venus or something. The Farmer spent a little time in the kitchen the other day and came out with a strange greenish tan.

We received the Sam's Club Holiday catalog the other day. You must understand that the Farmer is not in the least interested in catalogs or sales flyers. I tucked the catalog in a safe place but later the Farmer asked, "Where's that Sam's catalog? There's something I'm interested in."

This was a very strange turn of events. I wondered if Sam's was offering some type of golf paraphenalia because normally that's the only thing that would catch his eye.

Nope, he was interested in the same thing that prompted me to save the catalog. This:

What is it? It's a Red Velvet Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory.

OH.... MY..... GOODNESS (again)

This looks terrific and I think we'll serve this when my sister and I host a little gift and treasure sale here in my home.

What do you think now? Are you going to have a slice of Pummple, Cherpummple or Red Velvet Cheesecake?

NOTE: The marketing department at the Cheesecake Factory can feel free to send me a free Red Velvet Cheesecake for the mention in this blog post. Seriously, I have no ethical conflictions about accepting that gift. Really, it's no problem.

Morning everyone.

Not much going on here in the Chocolatechic house hold.

Sorry, but the caky/pie looking thing just looks.......ewwwwww

I need to get busy working on my quilt again, but I just can't bring myself to start again.

Those are way too gross, especially this early in the morning. Way too sweet, way too many calories, too much muddled flavors. Yuuuuck! And sorry, but the red velvet cheesecake is out also. Heaps and gobs of artificial red food coloring, and that is something I don't touch anymore. Friends with severe allergies.

On the other hand, each of those pies seperately, would be delicious, and greatly enjoyed.

Yesterday I started a baby blanket, I have about 7 months to get it done. That should work. Baby yarn, size 10 needles, 150+ stitches, and a very simple pattern.

I saw an article about that triple-layer pie-inside-cake concoction the other day and thought how disgusting it sounded. No way! Now red velvet cheesecake... yum. :)

Hi Suzanne, I'm not much for novelty desserts, but I have 3 guys here who would LOVE them. I'm a traditional type baker, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, even pumpkin cookies this year. I can't do red velvet, I taste only the food color. Have a great week and watch your mail;-)

I would have to say no to the Pummple. definitely too much happening, so you can't enjoy any part of it. That is a cake that belongs on Cake Wrecks. Have you ever checked out that website? My kids and I laughed and laughed at some of the cakes we found on there. I will have a slice of that cheesecake though. I can't say I'm a big fan of red velvet cake, but I am a big fan of cheesecake!
We use the compact fluorescents. Not in the outside lights, because they really don't like the cold, but overall I don't mind them. They do last a whole lot longer than the regular bulbs. As far as their other "green" benefits, I'm not really convinced of any of it. So much of what is promoted as environmentally friendly just seems ridiculous to me.

Cherpummple? More like Chernobyl. Food should be pleasing to the eye as well as the palate.

I don't like the CFL bulbs at all. A friend refers to them as ice cream bulbs because of the twist. You are supposed to carefully wrap any broken or dead bulbs and take them to hazardous waste sites. Too much bother. I sold the ones I bought/didn't use at a yard sale.
Our community now has LED streetlights-love the bluish white light and they are brighter than the old lights.

Good Morning,
I agree with chocolatechic - ewwww! But now the Red Velvet Cheesecake, yes! and maybe a second piece.
As for the lights I still use regular bulbs... Mercury is a heavy metal, an element on the Periodic Table - remember? That means it will never biodegrade and will poison the water table. I can't go for that!

I love to bake but those cakes are just nasty! I agree - you should send them to Jen for CakeWrecks. I can't understand the love for red velvet cake either - no specific flavor just tons of food coloring?? I like a taste besides just sweet - so I'll pass on that. My dessert for Thanksgiving day is pumpkin cheesecake - I make it with gingersnap cookies for the crust - YUM.

Love the Chernobyl comment ~ agreed!
Isn't there a quote out there somewhere that says "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD"? It certainly applies to the cake/pie morph thingies.

I've never tried Red Velevet cheesecake. Does it have that food coloring taste? Maybe a taste test is in order...

That cake looks quite disturbing. (The "turducken" cake, not the Red Velvet Cheesecake, I might have to make that one, I do make a cheesecake for every holiday!).

I hate those CFL Lightbulbs. They would be fine in the house, but we probably have 500 lightbulbs in our chicken houses, and they blow a lot! We've tried using the CFLs to see if they last longer, but they don't. They blow just as often. What I hate about them is the lighbulb changers we have to use to reach the bulb on the ceiling, doesn't work with the CFLs. They just usually end up breaking. If you read on the packaging, if you break them, you're supposed to call hazmat! Yeah right, I'm going to call them and have them rope off my chicken houses while they clean up a lightbulb. I don't think so. I'm sure they'll eventually make us change to those, but until then, I'll stick to the regular kind, and they better be working on a lightbulb changer for them.

I would try absolutely everything!

Those cakes don't even look good to eat. Yuck!! But the cheese cake oh my yes. I love Red Velvet Cake and I am not sure that there is enough dye in that cake to hurt anyone. Well maybe if you ate the whole cake at one setting. And who could do that? Taking a vote? I do not like the new light bulbs lighting. But do like the length of time they last.
Great post!

Pumpple? $75??? It looks like something that one of those food competition shows would come up with. It does not look tooo good, but I would probably try a bite or 2!;)
They are Cake Wrecks for sure! A really funny website the deserves a regular visit. I especially like the cake that has the word "Nothing" carefully written across the top. Too funny.

Lisa said...

Red Velvet Cheesecake, definitely. The other sounds (and looks) disgusting. Sometimes you really can have too much of a good thing.

Wow - I actually feel a little ill looking at those cakes! I think a pie in a cake is a little bit of an overkill! Especially American pie and cake which is oh so sweet!!

So good to know I am not the only one who hates the pigtail lights, with the exception of my neighbor's orange one that is currently in the front yard lamp. Very autumnish.

The turducken shift to bakery goods has my ears standing straight up. Yes, I would like to at least try a slice of that last creation. At least it will save time with the folks who want a little dab of all the desserts!
