Do you remember awhile back when I pulled into Mickey D's and was dazzled by the beautiful photo of a strawberry shake? The image was so compelling I ordered one and pulled away with my mouth watering in anticipation. I was very disappointed. There were certainly bits of strawberry but somehow it had an odd fake taste.
I vowed never to be mesmerized again. But you know what they say, never say never.
On my way to run some errands I pulled into Mickey D's for a large diet Coke. I don't order food from there but I do stop for the Coke because a large is only a dollar.
SHAZZAM.....there was a beautiful image of their new drink - frozen strawberry lemonade. All my resolve and willpower went flying out the window. I ordered one. Two bucks. Half the size of the diet Coke and twice the money.
Bleccch. It was awful. Once again a fakey taste and besides that I had brain freeze, throat freeze and tooth freeze! Perhaps it's because I grew up in a neighborhood with fantastic frozen Italian lemon ice and everything pales in comparison.
OK, once again I'm going to vow not to order these specialty drinks. Coffee or Coke for me please.
How about you? Have you tried this frozen lemonade?

Amen, Sister!! I ordered one last night and was sooo disappointed!
Sure does look pretty, though....in the photo. Not so much in person.
I haven't, but like you I've been nearly seduced by the enticing photo. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll avoid that one as well. I grab a cappucino there once in a while, but it doesn't seem like real coffee AND you end up with so little in the cup for some reason.
By the way, hello. I met you at the bloggers lunch last year about this time at White Pines. Somehow we got separated in blogging this year. I always enjoy your blog.
Deb :D
Step away from MIckey D's, Suzanne. Slowly, gently, step away. Do not be seduced by the pretty colors calling to you. They are an evil imitator of the real thing.
Seriously, everything is made with chemicals, dyes, and a generous dose of body-rotting high fructose corn syrup. Do yourself a favor and buy some fruit and some ice cream and put it in your blender. Your tummy will smile. Life will be beautiful. Little birds will sing. A double rainbow will appear in your backyard. :)
You will be kicking up your heels and singing a happy tune.
Yes I tried it on a hot day a few months ago, and had the same feeling...kinda tart and fake. I can make em better! (and cheaper)
I agree, I am developing a healthy dislike for artificial flavors and ingredients. Really, it's time for people to speak up--as in emailing Mickey D's and telling them what you don't want and what you DO want (and are willing to pay for)--like healthy, fresh ingredients. It's all about cheap!
Nope. And I won't now.
John likes those strawberry shakes except he says it's awful hard to suck the cherry up the straw. I'll have to tell him that you think it tastes fake. I'll let you know what he says.
Make yourself a homemade strawberry shake (strawberries and homemade vanilla ice cream). Look at the color. That is the color of food. Look at the ads. That is not the color of food. Make yourself some lemonade with a real lemon. That murky color is the color of food. The bright yellow on the ads? That is not the color of food.
Any questions?
Which is why I never stop at fast food places. Stuff never tastes as yummy as it looks in the ads. We do have a genuine real deal authentic gelato shop in the neighborhood. So much better than a Slurpee!
The new strawberry-banana smoothie is awesome!
