Squatters Camp

On my way to work on Wednesday morning I spotted something really ridiculous. Our store is in the same area as a Best Buy. For those of you who live elsewhere in the world, Best Buy is an electronics retailer. Think TV's, cameras, etc.

There was a tent set up near the front door. Already on Wedneday morning. It goes without saying that it's cold here in northern Illinois. Too cold to be camping out for two days unless you're moose hunting. They're not moose hunting.

Yesterday, on the way to my sister's house, same sight. This time there were a dozen or so tents set up in front of the Best Buy in her town and snaking around the corner. This is just so crazy.

I'm very tired or I'd go downstairs and grab the sales flyer that's sitting on my kitchen counter. I'm pretty sure that they are not giving away any merchandise and short of that I'm not making any herculean effort to stand in line much less camp out.

The TV news crew was set up doing a story on the Sale Squatters. What passes for news these days!!

How about you? Are you going to catch any Black Friday sales? I'm going to be working one! Ugh. People already started acting wierd on Wednesday night when I worked. I'm sure to have some tales to tell.

I am a lowly Missouri state worker. So I am working to save the state money.....I wanted to stay in bed. No sales for me.....I've never been to any and don't plan to. End of the month and I don't have any money.......We give the gift of cash for all our loved ones....too lazy to shop.....haha....

I do want a new Christmas tree for cheap. Not willing to camp out for it, though. My favorite line in this post? "What passes for news these days!!" Amen to that. I'm sick of it from local news to national news. The media really needs a serious refresher course across the board. And if that weatherman says "nightmare" in reference to a three-inch snowstorm ever again, I'm personally going to throttle him. I'm running on a short fuse.

Hope that it's just busy enough at your store to make the hours pass quickly.

Rumor has it that we had "campers" in front of the Best Buy in our area too. Not me! No idea what was on sale. I did go early to Joann Fabrics for their Ott light sale. The lights in our house seem to be getting dimmer and dimmer ;0p

Here in Canada, my local newspaper (the Vancouver Sun) reported several instances of people being pepper-sprayed or shot, all at Walmarts! So now, in addition to road rage, we have shopping rage. Looking at the pictures of the crowds and lineups, I simply can't imagine wanting anything so badly that I'd line up for hours and put up with shoving, nasty, hostile crowds.

We found our "deals" online, so we didn't have to stand outside in the cold waiting for doors to open and find out that they were already out of what we came to get.

In Canada, we have Boxing Day sales - on December 26. I like that yours is before Christmas, so you can look for gifts, but chances are I wouldn't go. I went shopping on Boxing Day in the city once and I hated it. I like to take my time shopping, not be rushed, crowded, and waiting in long line-ups.

They started lining up at Best Buy here on Tuesday. Let me just say that, first, you could not pay me to go to a Black Friday sale. Second, anybody camping out on a sidewalk for three days in a tent is either a) a heck of an adventurer b) somebody with way too much time on their hands c) crazy, or d) all of the above.
In my little ol' opinion, Black Friday has become a showcase for the most unattractive traits of human nature. It's very sad.
I will say that my sister, who loves a good challenge, has sometimes hit the stores early (like getting in line an hour before they open -- not all night on the sidewalk) to get some deals on toys for the grandkids. She's never been part of the real craziness though, not the pushing and shoving and running for the big ticket items. Still, I tease her about it and say how crazy she is.

I took no part of Black Friday nor Cyber Monday sales! Just didn't want to join in with the frenzy!
