Name that Machine

It's time to name that machine!

My sister picked up this fabulous vintage sewing machine at a thrift store. She knew I'd been searching for a pink machine for awhile and this fit the bill. It's a vintage Singer Merritt in a dark pink and cream color scheme.

Photobucket

It sews really well, smooth and quiet. There are decorative stitches but I don't have the cams. They're available on ebay and I'll pick some up in the future.

Till then she'll be in charge of straight stitching in a secondary therad color. When I'm working on lots of projects I'll set up my machines in different colored threads, that way I don't have to stop and change out the thread and bobbin. It means that my "collection" is actually used and just not sitting around looking pretty.

Do you have an idea of what to name her? Leave your entry in the comment field. I'm going to have my sister choose the name because she's the one who rescued her from possibly ending up in the dump.

I'll announce the winner at next Monday's staff meeting. The prize will be a goody bag of things from workroom. Good luck!.

I think you should name her: Peggy Lee, she was a Singer, too. And I always think of pink when I hear her name.
No one said it had to be a good reason!

Here's another obvious one — Rose. She is a beauty. A very good idea with the different color threads. I wish that I had room to line up a few machines.

I like Laverne!

I thought of Rosie as in "Rosie the Riveter" an image of a hard working woman.

I like Candy, but also think sugar would be a good name.

I like Rescue, or Cupcake! She is Delicious - that could be a good name - or Dessert. No calories.

How about Second Hand Rose from the song of the same name from the movie "Funny Girl"?

How about "Juliette"?
People with this name tend to be creative and excellent at expressing themselves. They are drawn to the arts, and often enjoy life immensely. I know we're talking about a sewing machine but it seems fitting to me! :)

Well, this is what happens when you don't check the blog until late in the day. The contest has opened and lots of great names ahead of you. My first thought was Rosie. I'm obvious like that, but I do usually have a longer name to go with the nickname, which for this machine is Rosalinda. I like that name and have come across it several times this week. Love the idea of threading several machines in different colors!

I think Rosie is perfect too. It is catchy, short and sweet. I don't need to win anything...I just think that is the best name.

How about Mary Sue? Here in Maryland there is a great candy company by that name that has the best chocolate Easter eggs.I'm glad she has found a good home with you. Abandoned sewing machines are so sad. I wish I had more time to use mine and I like the idea of different thread colors on the machines - very clever.

Hey Suzanne, Love that pink machine. Our friend, Lila, of www.indigopears.blogspot (met her as my teacher in a quilting class over 30 years ago), loves aqua machines. She featured one recently on her blog. She tells me that Singer stopped making machines with metal gears around 1965--so I am on the lookout for a pre-1965 Singer now!
