Staking My Claim

Right here in front of Bill Gates and the World Wide Web I'm officially staking my claim. I know that Dooce* and The Pioneer Woman get between 4-5 million views a month and Pioneer Woman alone gets 3,000 plus comments but they've got nothing on me. Why? I've got something much more practical and I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I'm the only blogger on the WWW that has their own......

Photobucket

That's right. I have a Grammar Nazi. She said it was OK to share her identity with you but I wasn't too sure about that. You see, it's a calculated risk to share this kind of information. Think about your reluctance to share that special family recipe, or the name of a terrific housekeeper. If you share the name of that housekeeper you risk the chance of losing her or getting bumped off the schedule. Some things just need to remain a closely guarded secret. But I trust Paula not to jump ship. Heck, she just took the job so she's got to stay for at least a little while.

I promise to do my best each and every day so she doesn't get overworked.

I'm probably the only blogger to also have an official Crappy Commenter. That's PamKittyMorning. She nominated herself. I knew you could do it Pam! Way to go. Please, don't be commenting because you'll spoil your standing here and I'll have to find someone else for that position.

(I've got a really cute picture of a baby chick - a "peep" - that would be perfect for this spot. I just can't FIND it)

I'd like you to take a moment or two and look at my sidebar. Just below my picture I've got a special offer.....free subscriptions, as long as they last. Don't miss an episode of my exciting life, nine miles from anything. It's a page turner for sure.

Just below that is a list of my "Peeps". Mary Jane Butters already has her Farmgirls so I can't use that phrase. Peeps seemed appropriate. If you look at the list you'll see I have some openings. If you think you'd like to be one of my Peeps, let me know. I'll be adding other openings as the need arises.

I'd really be OK if no one claimed "Troll". I suppose every blog needs one but perhaps we could leave that one permanently open.

*NOTE: I'm not linking to Dooce because she's a bit too profane for my taste and I think we can all get together and have some fun without cussing.

Grammar Nazi? Yes!! go for it!
Solecisms (sp?) are the bane of my existence.

(and an aside: why am I too dumb to figure out how to get my URL to come up when my name is clicked on???)help

Lucky you with a grammar nazi. I'm my own grammar nazi and I drive myself nuts with edits. Speaking of which, your grammar nazi is falling down on the job. LOL!

Peeps? Huh? I don't get this concept at all. Can I just be one annoying old friend? ;D (See above)

Vee, by all means, feel free to assist!

I'm not sure exactly what Suzanne is expecting. I don't intend to review her posts with my red pen in hand, though I'm happy to point out any glaring errors I happen to catch. :)

Gracious knows I have problems proofing my own comments and posts and am making no claims to perfection. Maybe I'm not a true 'Grammar Nazi' after all.

It is, after all, just a courtesy title, right Suzanne?

Suzanne?...

hmmmm...

[uh-oh...what have I gotten myself into now??!]

ROFL, Paula!

Could I be the troll? Because the thought of living nine miles from anywhere is very appealing, which means I'm either antisocial or just a little creepy...

Maybe I could be one of those cute little trolls with the pink hair?

Happy Monday!
xoxo,
Mary

BTW, is it just me, or are the word verifications getting harder?

Don't answer that.

Mary

Suzanne, I've posted my disclaimer. I would link to the bottom of your post, but honestly I can't really figure it out! What does one use the 'link to this post' feature for, and how? I'm too new to this blog thing.

Mary, I was thinking the exact same thing...I fail the word verification more often than not and have to re-key a new word. I'm blaming my astigmatism!

I love it, one of my favorite posts yet.

Really, I would love to be the troll, but I seem to remember that they were always rather naked and that would not do at all, no siree. let Mary be the troll. And yes Mary, the verifications are becoming positively evil! Not sure how many I will go thru to post this.

This is quite possibly one of the best posts ever!

Wow, I have to break my crappy commenting streak to say I'm thrilled with my "official position" here !!! Thanks!

Now, back to crappy commenting.

Cowgirl - HA HA...Solecism?? You sent me scampering for the Funk & Wagnall. Actually I found the Wikipedia explanation which was too much information. It ends with the statement, "Note that a solecism is an error of syntax - while a barbarism is an error of morphology". Yep, I'll keep that in mind. Or, my Grammar Nazi will.

Vee- Peeps is a slang term for "people". I've got Peeps to do my taxes. I thought it tied in well with the farm theme but on second thought it seems to be a reach, almost trying too hard to be hip. Heaven knows I'm not hip at all. Maybe I'll just say the Farmer's Wife has pals.

Paula - Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to catch all the glaring and possibly embarassing malapropisms or misspellings. No, it's not a courtesy title and if it feels a little less threatening you can call yourself a "Grammar Nazette".

Mary, Mary - What are we going to do with you? You are about the farthest thing from internet troll as it gets. That would be the stretch of the century. Maybe you've never run into an internet troll yet. That would be a good thing. I would pay good money to see you dye your hair pink though.

Rue - An award? Oh my gosh. I'm a little afraid because the time I won the "Agricultural Preservationist" award from Garfield Farm Museum, unbeknownst to me, I was expected to give a speech! I didn't discover this until I was sitting down to dinner. There's one meal I didn't enjoy. I'll be over there in a few minutes.

lil Birdie - It looks like you're applying for the job of computer geekette. I certainly wouldn't have been able to offer that info.

Vintage Indie - Just you wait. There's more where that came from.

Janet - This is a family site. There will be NO NAKED TROLLS running around here. The verifications are being developed by someone who hates old people with fading eyesite.

Aunt Jo - I'm glad you enjoyed. We all need to have a little fun with this thing we call blogging.

Pam - Go sit in the corner and go back to not commenting. I'm counting on you.

Oh...and I could be the troll if you checked your sitemeter for the times I visited versus the times I comment....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but no....I'm not campaigning for the position.......

Still shaking my head at Robin's coming to Haven for sarcasm...;D

I live here in Utah aka Dooce territory. If you get a chance check out my blog and see what my take on her is. Love yours!

I agree about the profanity thing. Yes I do. And I'm from Utah as well as Dooce - and I am not Mormon- just in case you were wondering. I just think profanity is the playground for uneducated minds. And I don't want to play.
Please don't think me stuffy - I like funny - and some innuendo - but the other...well..it's just too much to see, especially in print.
I have been enjoying your blog and will continue to visit - thanks for your writings!

Oh, and Mary, yes, I think the verification codes are getting harder and harder to see- maybe it's my OLD EYES! Or, they don't really want any of us commenting - so they're making it hard..Hmmm..

Computer stuff changes so fast nowadays I'm afraid this ole techy is out of touch . These days I am better at taking them appart and putting them back together than solving most software problems but if you need help with anything feel free to email me and I will try to help ... really I would make a much better troll though *giggles*
(love your blog as so glad I stumbled on it through your Oreos)
