Monday Morning Staff Meeting

Good morning everyone! You'll notice that we have some new chairs in the conference room. That's because Neighbor Betty, otherwise known as Queen Bee, almost fell over backwards last week. I hold every reader as a precious and I need to keep them all healthy. With that thought in mind we're going to move on to the first item on the agenda - FOOD!

This morning we'll be having hot oatmeal, not the instant oats. I'm out of steel cut oats so we're going to have old fashioned Quaker Oats. There's cream, butter, sugar, brown sugar or that Wisconsin maple syrup.

Dress your oats however you wish. Perhaps next week we'll have grits and I'll show you how to cook them so they're creamy and yummy.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the interesting discussion on "I'll Raise Your Breakup......". I'm encouraged that my readers are a wonderful group of women who allow for each other's experiences. What I forgot to mention is that I know for a fact that some marriages cannot be saved, especially when your mate is not a partner or announce that he doesn't want to be married anymore. You can add damaging behavior to that list.

Trust me, if your marriage is a spectacular failure it gives you a good idea of what you're looking for the second time around.

What's a visit to "At Home....." without a discussion of the weather? I hoping that the rains hold off for awhile because it's been very difficult to keep up with the mowing. I'm sure the corn and soybean farmers are loving the moisture but I'm tired of dodging raindrops.

About that triumverate of powerful men - Jesus, George and Abraham, Leann made a guess that they are features at a miniature golf course. If I didn't know any better, I'd think the same thing. In fact, they are located at a religious shrine. I've been to some religious places that are very moving and inspiring but this was not one of them. The people that operate this site are obviously sincere and I would never make light of their efforts, but the bottom line is this place is downright creepy.

This is the site where a farm wife claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary. That gets alot of people's attention and when she predicted that Mary would reappear and a miracle would occur, 100,000 people showed up on their dairy farm. At noon everyone looked at the sun and nothing happened. Then she started claiming that all the saints were also appearing to her. One of her messages stated that the devotees of the shrine would be spared Armageddon when a 1,200 year old man named Joe will come in a spaceship to save them. You can imagine the reaction of the Catholic Church. She and her devotees were excommunicated and the planned 2,000 seat cathedral stands eerily unfinished.

When the delapidated farmhouse burned down she was instructed to rebuild an exact replica. And so they built a dilapidated farmhouse and filled the front window with a small army of creepy dolls worshiping the Virgin Mary.

The on-site gift shop includes plastic baggies filled with anti-abortion literature and a plastic fetus. I'm at a loss as to what you would do with such an item. Is it intended to hand out to change someone's mind about their stance? My sister and I were dumbfounded.

Like I said, I allow everyone their beliefs but this place was an otherworldly experience.

I've got someone working on a redesign of my site. Hopefully I'll be better organized. There will be some new features. Stayed tuned for the reveal, sometime in the next month.

That's it for me. I've got to get busy, lots of sewing to do. How about you? What's on your agenda for the week?

Interesting stuff...now why wasn't that Almond Vanilla Cake served? No worries, I'm serving it tomorrow at my place. If you can teach me how to make good grits, I'll be even more of a fan than I am now.

Hope that you don't all go moldy out there. Sounds like ever so much rain.

You're getting a facelift? Wow. I'll be looking forward to it...

mmm oatmeal. Have you tried the oatmeal at Trader Joes with apples and cinnamon. It is instant, but is not gluey. It has great texture, better taste and is quite cheap.

Have you ever been to the grotto in Dickeyville, WI. it is a stunning place. My hubbie and iwent a couple years ago and it has really changed since I was growing up in n.w. IL and first went there

There is a pretty cool Shrine/church/park not too far from where I live. It's in Carey, Ohio, and the church and site have actually had miracles happen. I can't remember all the details exactly, but the site is olcshrine.com if you click history and other links, if has all kinds of neat info!

It's a national basilica and shrine, and all kinds of things have happened there. Back when they made the move from the smaller older church, to the newer larger one they still use today, they had to transport the statue of mary and it had been raining all day, and the plan was for a certain few church members to carry the statue by hand, the whole length between churches. Rain or not, they intended to do it that way. They went out the door of the old church, carying the statue like pall bearers would, and the Rain fell all around them, pouring. But not a drop on any of the carriers, or the statue. The basement is filled with things, wheelchairs, gurneys, crutches, pill bottles, glasses, canes, you name it. People have been carried in that church paralyzed, and have walked out on their own! Addicted have walked out sober, ect. There is also many, many other things there, all amazing. People come from all over the world to pray to that statue of mary. and around a little over 8 years ago, many years after my first visit to that church, I went to pray. My life was in peices, I had left college, was homeless, had nothing, and no one. I sat in the church for about an hour, just thinking, and one of the brothers of the church sat beside me, and asked why I was there, and I told him I had come to pray, and such, and he said, well god answers all prayers, it's just sometimes the answer isn't what we'd like. We talked for awhile, and he also said that in all his years there, that the statue did seem to favor women, and especially those from toledo, ohio. I must have turned some strange color when he said that, because he then asked where I was from..I stammered my way thru, "um, about 5 minutes away from toledo..."
anyhow, I went to the statue, said my prayer, just asking her for something, anything, in my life to give me purpose, and to show me some kind of direction in my life.
A month after that prayer, I just assumed nothing had become of that prayer, that hope. Life was still the same as it was a month before.
A Year after that prayer, I realized my answer had come. I gave birth a year to the day after that prayer. To a beautiful, healthy little girl.

I named her Faith :) At 7, she may not understand why, but every year I take her back to that church, to say thank you.

Oh my..... I have written a novel on someone's blog again. sorry! I just thought it was something good to share, only not creepy like the falling down house, and the guy name joe coming :)

I am about twelve hours late to the staff meeting. I got help up by a houseful of college kids who needed bacon and eggs for breakfast, rides to the airport, and who used about twelve dirty towels since Saturday afternoon. I'll eat oatmeal with the works for dinner, too tired to cook.

I am a little late on the commenting, but I did attend the staff meeting this morning at work...kind of sneaking a look at your blog while I was supposed to be working.

Your trip sounds interesting. Even when I don't agree with things I appreciate the difference in people. It makes life much more interesting. Even if it creeped you out, you at least had the open mind to check it out. Kudos to you.

You are very wrong about the corn and soybean farmers, especially in my area. The soil is much too wet to plant the seeds for this year's crop. And it is getting late, which can reduce the crop. No, we also want the rain to end.

My corn farmer is not at all happy with the state of the weather. He's only planted 420 of 4000 acres so far this year. AS it stands now production will probably be down about 30% with this late planting. He was hoping to switch over to beans but didn't buy beans last fall and now has to scramble to find them. Stop the rain already!!!

Question re oatmeal - your picture shows the kind of oats I like - separate flakes and nice & chewy, with maple syrup of course and maybe butter or cream. In the US do you eat porridge? ie. that gluey over-stirred sloppy paste that my mother (English of course) used to make and that bore no resemblance to those lovely oats - as a child it always made me gag!

Are grits corn? or can they be any chopped grain?
