Novel Jewelry

If you're like me, you're always scrambling around to find a bookmark. Where do these things go?

When Cindy LaFerle sent me a copy of her book "Writing Home" she also included a wonderful laminated bookmark. It was my favorite, but somehow I've misplaced it, leaving me to scounge around for bits of paper or a bobby pin.

Last weekend my sister gave me a cool bookmark that she'd made. It so clever and I easy. I call it my novel jewelry (although I rarely read fiction).

Cut a 17 inch length of flat ribbon. This is 3/8 inch wide.

Make a knot in one end. Slide some decorative beads. In this case she used some turquoise colored pottery beads.

Tie a second knot that is close to the last bead, to keep it from sliding around.

Repeat at the other end, starting with a knot.

And there you have it.

Oh, what's that? Yes, I did say I rarely read fiction but after my trip to Mexico and the tour of the Cathedral in Mazatlan, my friends told me I simply must read this book.

That book is brill. It's the follow up one that is a bit more "trashy" (lots of sex; and that sort of thing . . .ahem).

I loved Pillars of the Earth! I thought the historical snapshot of the era was enlightening and the research Ken Follett put into how the cathedrals were built was interesting. The characters and story made me want to keep reading. The follow-up book, World Without End, is a good read also.
P.S. Lovely bookmark!

You know there is actually a name for that kind of bookmark...

It is called a book thong.

Oh, I love the new ribbon bookmark -- what a clever idea! And I am sorry you lost my Writing Home bookmark... but would happily send you another if you send me your address again :-)

Those kinds of thongs are my favorites! Yours is very pretty.

I have Mrs. Lincoln's cake in the oven right now. Smells heavenly. How in the world did she ever mix that cake without an electric mixer. It overwhelmed my little mixer and I had to resort to muscle power...my own...not good. Ha!

I am definitely going to make some of these. In fact, I already have the ribbon and beads at home. It's the perfect addition when you are giving someone a book as a gift.

A book thong? I love it.

such a cute bookmark. I am looking at some of Mom's ugly costume jewelry with a new eye.

And what a good book. It is almost historical fiction. And so good to see the follow up book in Kitty's comment. I will need to check it out.

I love the bookmark idea-

I love reading. It is part of me I think- but I am neglecting it with blogging. How do you balance all of that?

Sarah - Lots of sex??? Wait..... this blog is supposed to have a PG rating.

Kitty - Everyone I've talked to loved the book. Like I said, I'm not much of a fiction reader. Everybody loved The Da Vinci Code and I hated that book. There were so many implausible situations,

Chocolatechic - Come on....book thong??? Omigosh, now I'm in trouble with my PG rating status.

Cindy - I know your bookmark is here somewhere. Probably in the large stack of books next to my bed.

Vee - Yes! I've been wanting to bake Mrs. Lincoln's cake but I don't have any almonds and I'm too lazy to go the store. It was hard back in the day when there were no electric appliances.

Bella Della - What a great idea to tuck it inside the gift book. You're smart and that's why I have you around here. Oh, and you've got a beautiful vintage store - that too!

Farmchick - To be honest, I like the name too.

Mary - Get busy. I'm glad to know that you enjoyed the book also. It's 900+ pages in paperback but already it's reading so much faster than that darn Team of Rivals. That book is dry as wheat toast.

Laura - Blogging is mostly an early morning activity. I read in the evenings before I go to bed and sew, knit and crochet in between. Did you notice that I didn't mention dusting in my daily lineup. Also, my children are grown which provides alot of freedom, time wise.

Thanks everyone for visiting today. I aprreciate your company!!!

Do you like it? I think Pillars of the Earth is still in the top 2 of my Alltime Most Hated Books Ever list, and I can't imagine what would be in the #1 spot. I was so mad that I read 7,000 pages of that, but I couldn't stop, I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt and thinking "oh, it will all pull together and get exciting soon."

I want a trailer now!
