Today we're going on another local field trip. We'll be traveling four miles as the crow flies to a big barn sale.
It's being held at Valerie's Truly Bound Farm.
She boards horse and my friend Brooke kept her two paints here for a couple of years.
There's already a crowd gathered. You just pull into the grass along the fence line. She also has some parking in the back near the barn.
The farmhouse is a typical midwest two-story.
I always start shopping inside the pole barn because that's where they keep the furniture. I love this mid-century hutch. The butterfly chair is a reproduction.
There's an old ornate mirror resting on garish astroturf.
There are old chairs and bookcases.
On the way up to the big barn there's a motorcycle for sale. It's a Honda 750. I can't believe I used to ride one of these. Back in the day. Yeah, the day I could lift it.
Here's a large scale. I'd love to find a place to put this but the Farmer has put a moratorium on "old stuff". I see his point because we're drowning in old stuff around here.
The ramp that used to be a pathway for the tractor to haul hay to the loft is now just a walkway for customers.
The barn is filled with treasures waiting to find a new home. I try my best to avoid temptation.
The huge spaces inside these barns always reminds me of a cathedral.
There's a window open in a dark corner of the barn and we're treated to a framed view of the world outside.
One of the horses keeps cool in the shade of the barn.
I did make a purchase. It's for you!!
My vintage handheld strainer is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets and I've found another one and it's the Barn Sale Field Trip Giveaway.
Leave a comment and let me know that you're interested. You have until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 12th. I'll be announcing the winner at the Monday Morning Staff Meeting.
I hope you had fun.

Neat Strainer. I can just imagine not a pea getting away if I was using that...so please enter me.
I love barn sales. I think there is one happening this weekend near us...I need to remember to get there.
Have a great weekend!
Becky K.
I would love to win this. Years ago I began collecting antique kitchen utensils and I have them displayed on my kitchen wall. I love when I have guests over and we talk about the "good old days" ...even though most of the things I have are way before my time!
I love a good sale! Must be a midwest thingy huh? LOL Please enter me in your contest - I cant wait for fall.. *wink* Shnitzel is going to be here on Sunday and Trout is coming with her I guess.. :) WISH YOU WERE TOO!!!
I loved reading this post. I had never been to a barn sale before today...very cool.
Please enter my name for the strainer give away. One can never have too many strainers.
Susan Z from Acworth, GA
Oooooooooh! That is a really neat gadget! I use the pot lid to strain with and always loose some of what I am straining down the drain. This would be a great addition to my kitchen gadget collection.
I had a strainer just like that - stolen from my mom's stuff - or at least I had it until I broke the handle off. I guess that's what I get for stealing :)
That's so cool! Never saw a strainer like that, learned the old "tilt the lid" straining method from my mom, but doesn't always work when the pot is too hot. Would love to win that!
I have never seen a strainer quite like that. It would be very useful. Yes, The Trout and I will be at the Milkman's Wife on Sunday. Wish you were coming too!!
I'd love to have the strainer! I have one similar to that one, but I don't think mine is as old as this one.

I want to go to that sale. Why didn't you give me a holler and I'd gone with ya.....I love old things too and can see such potential in them....Love the strainer. I still use my great granny's masher and tenderizer roller for my meat. The Strainer would be great, instead of getting burnt from the steam.....how often do they have the barn sales??? and how far is that from Jefferson City.? Your the best....
Suzanne,
Your beautiful pictures make me feel like I came along with you. We have sales like that around here in Central PA...but I have a no more old furniture rule myself! My rooms already are full of enough cool stuff. I still love to see it though!
Thanks for taking me along!
Loved the trip to the sale! Why is it that when we go to barn sales there are only tractors, hay rakes and very large tractor tires for sale? I want funky, cool and pretty not rusty, greasy and smelly! Bring on the kitchen gadgets...give me something I can use!
I could live in a barn like that! That sale looks like a alot of fun....masses of goodies.
I want it!!!! The barn sale has me itching to go out yardsaling tomorrow. Hope you have a great weekend!
I would love to win the vintage strainer! Thank you for giving it away. If I were you I would be tempted to keep it for myself :)
I would love to win the strainer-it looks like a very handy tool!
Wow, I would love that strainer! My grandmother used to have one almost like it.
I am seriously coveting that barn. And holy cow what a sale -- I wish we had sales like that here. I did manage to get some great creep feeders at the last one we attended though.
That is a very cool gadget. I would love to be entered in yur contest. I am giving away some silk scarves come by and enter you might recycle them into some crafty thing if you win.
I an addicted to kitchen gadgets and love the strainer. If I would win it there would be no more of the the lid getting away from me and pasta all over the sink. How cool would that be???
Nice trip. I already have one of these strainers - and being left handed it presents me with some logistics problems, so I don't use it often - but I like the looks of it.
As I recall, I had never seen such a kitchen gadget before. I think I decided that you had to be a strong gal to hang onto the pot handle and the gadget at the same time. This looks like my idea of a great sale. Does your friend do them several times a year?
Suzanne,
Love, love that strainer. Please do include me in your drawing. It will be my first one.
Fun sale. I'm in central MN and was just at a store that repurposes things and couldn't resist the temptations. Two end tables came home with me.
keep up the fun blog.
I would have been tempted to take that chair and the scale. I'm sure I could use the scale for *something*. Maybe it could double as a towel rack in our bathroom.
What a beautiful farm. Thanks for sharing it...please enter me in the drawing! Thanks!!
Hi Suz,
I just stopped by to say Hello my friend! Love the strainer, but I think that maybe someone else is meant to be the new home for it. I miss our chats and hope that all is well with you. Wish I could've gone to the barn sale with you.
Hugs,
Mary
Ooooooo I love that strainer! I have several old utensils, the old stuff is the best. Lucky find there. :)
some nice things there. Love the
ornate mirror.
I've never been to a barn sale but it does sound like fun. Please enter me for the strainer. My mother had something similar years ago. It looks so much easier than getting out a strainer and then having to wash it. No dishwasher here!!! Steph
A wonderful strainer...my grandmother had one, but after she passed another family member claimed it.
I really want to win this strainer. I wish I could've been with you at that sale today. I love those kinds of sales!
I love the strainer...in fact, I loved the whole idea of a sale like that in a huge barn. Reminds me of sales I went to with my dad...a lifetime ago.
greetings from Pennsylvania. Wedding plans are going well and we are here to meet the PA family at a bridal shower tomorrow. I hope that there is a prize for the person who came the farthest.
I wish I had gotten to that sale. I'm drooling lookingat the pictures. And that strainer is wonderful.
Would love to have that strainer. What happened to awesome kitchen tools like that?
I would love to have that strainer! All of my 'everyday' utensils are old, so this would match them perfectly! ha....
Thanks..P.M.
Just imagine how handy that Strainer will be when straining hot hot boiling pasta or veggies!
I think I need it.........Hope I get Lucky!
That looks so cool! I'd love to win this. Thanks for hosting this contest.
Whoa....now that's a handy kitchen tool. So much better than tilting the lid. Please, count me in.
I have never seen one of those, but I bet it's a far sight easier to clean paste starch from its holes than from the plastic bowl strainers I have. Please add my name to the list of people who would love to have it.
Pick me! Pick me! That's a really cool strainer that would be so much more at home in my kitchen than the plastic one I currently use! Love the barn sale tour - I could have done some serious damage there, too. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
You rode a bike like that? Girl you amaze me! I'd love to have that strainer - what a find. :) blessings, marlene
Good post. I could/would use that strainer buI am not a winner of prizes. Have only won one thing in my whole life.
So, Cool! and I will enjoy learning who wins the strainer.
More proof of how versatile a barn can be. Nice post!
Well, I just found your blog today. I love the strainer. Whoever got it received a jewel. I happen to have one just like it. I've tried to update and find a newer one, but none of them seem to work as well as this one.
