I'm Slipping

I'm slipping, I tell you. I completely forgot about giving away the note cards yesterday. That last field trip was posted on a day other than Friday and that threw me all off. Oh, and I'm late posting this and it's all the Queen Bee's fault!

Last night was a meeting of the "ladies of a certain age" in the neighborhood and it was held at the Queen Bee's house. If you look at the Peeps list on my sidebar you'll see her husband Ed listed as one of my bartenders-of-choice. He was mixing martinis for the ladies last night and I consumed my share. I'll confess to one Chambord and Vodka martini, one chocolate and one extra dry martini. I'e been a very, very bad girl. But it's their fault I tell you!! The can take the blame for being such wonderful hosts.

Let's get to the drawing. I don't do that random number integer what-ever-you-call-it. I employ the mininum amount of modern technology to keep my life going smoothly. A automatic number thingie doesn't appeal to me. Why? Because I love paper, pen and scissors.

I love to write all the names on paper. I think about all the people as a write. Some are loyal readers and some are names that are new to me. There are two Steph's so I denote one as the cotton-picking-chicken-farmer. You know who you are. One person says to give the note cards to someone more deserving. HUH? Who's more deserving than you, I ask.

After writing the names on the paper I do the fun part, which is cutting them apart. Oh gosh, I loved paper dolls! Do girls still play with paper dolls? I'm trying to think of my favorites. Was it Betsy McCall? Does that sound familiar?

After cutting them apart I fold them into wingnuts.

Put them in my thread catcher basket.

And pull out a name.

Jeanne - you're the winner of the notecards. Please contact me with your snail mail address and I'll get them in the mail to you.

Thanks everyone for participating. And please, I'd love to hear your best paper doll stories because I know I'm not alone in still loving those things!

Paper dolls...of course! We also played a lot with those little plastic thingies that stuck to the back ground and you could move clothes and dolls around dressing them as you like--Colorforms? Does that sound right? C

My very favorite paper doll ever was "Piper Laurie". Anyone remember this beautiful woman. All time favorite and I actually think I remember Betty Grable paperdolls. Now, does that age me?

Paper dolls--I had all kinds. Betsy McCall (she was free in McCall's magazine), Barbie & Midge, cartoon characters, movie stars. We would trace around them and make and color our own clothes for them. That brings back memories.

I like the idea of the "ladies of a certain age" get-together. Especially the martini part!

of course, how did I miss your give away? Mary Englebright makes them now! I had gobs and loved them all. It's just fun to cut things out. Have you ever recovered a window box before?

My girls play with paper dolls - they are 6 and 8 yrs old. An older cousin passed some on to them. Of course, they are Disney Princess paper dolls, not at all like the ones I had back in the day; but at least my girls know what they are!

I so remember the paper dolls of years ago. Gosh I bet you could get a pretty penny today ... maybe on Ebay...for antique books of Paper Dolls!

I just might even have some McCalls mags squirreled away in the attic....probably all brown by now, but they did contain the free Betsy McCall paper dolls!
All the fashion too!

...ahhhh those memories!

I loved paper dolls and were always making them....from the Sears catalog. I had a suit case full of them...but the favorite was the baby paperdolls. I had a few movie star ones too. I'd spend hours on end cutting and playing and makeing houses for the dolls. O to be that free again....

What a fond memories......

Ah paper dolls! We made our own dolls from heavier paper, as well as their clothes. My friend aspired to be Queen so her dolls had many gowns and jewels.

It might be a little pathetic how pleased I am to see that you wrote my name on a piece of paper. :) As someone who taught two girls to write using Calvert School script (which produces lovely handwriting) I comend you on yours.

I still have my George & Martha Washington paper dolls from my childhood! And I used to collect Betsy McCall outfits... wonder what happened to them?

I had one paper doll that was over-sized, about 30 inches, a little girl and I loved her, Mom bought it at a tag sale.

I was crushed when my daughter would not play with paper dolls. Mom and I had bought any we came across during the 80s and I had quite a collection. Good news was a friend with 4 girls got them and they were well-loved.

I loved Betsy McCall too - but my favorite was Patti Page - given to me by my aunt who is just four years older than me. I recently found that you can buy reproductions of old paper dolls and my family got me the Patti Page paper dolls - what fun.

We had some Bobbsy Twin paper dolls way back when. I remember slipping a paper doll between the keys of our piano when I was just tall enough to reach that far. I was inordinately pleased when the piano-key-replacement-guy pulled it out many (m.a.n.y.) years later. Still have it somewhere.

Congrats Jeanne!

I played with paper dolls ALL THE TIME. I used to pillage the end papers of my books to make dresses out of them. BAD for the books, but the patterns sure were pretty. I remember carrying a shoebox of paper dolls and art supplies to make dresses, on vacations or to visit my grandmother. For me it was all about making the clothes.

oh I haven't thought about paperdolls in years! those were my favorite toys. once I got a huge stack of some childrens magazines at a rummage sale and there were different paperdolls in every issue. I think I had hundreds, and I made all sorts of clothes for them.
