Blogging Takes a Beating

It's 1:30 a.m. and I'm knee deep in apron body parts. My little in-home studio seems to be closing in on me. I'm sure the fabric is breeding at night when I'm not looking. My plan was to stay up and see if I could catch the homespun canoodling with the polyester.

My plan is to get enough put together to make a decent showing at some upcoming holiday craft fairs. My years at the newspaper taught me to set goals and to keep on track. Unfortunately all these daily sewing/stitching/crocheting goals have caused my blogging to take a beating.

I'd love to go for a ride on this V-12 and clear my mind.

Not long ago I was at a party attempting to explain blogging to someone. It's hard to believe that there are still people out there who have never heard of a blog, but there are.

In a nutshell I told her that I cook, photograph, share recipes, write stories, plan trips, interview people, share craft ideas and make friends. Halfway through the explanation she stopped me and said, "So.....blogging is your job?"

That stopped me in my tracks. Well, yes, I guess she was right. Blogging is my job, a job that doesn't pay!!

All the time I sat at the newspaper, it FELT like a job. It was work. But blogging has never FELT like work because I'm in control of the content and the pace. Blogging has always been fun to me and I hope you're having some fun also.

Currently I'm suffering from a lack of inspiration in my writing, but there are a couple of things coming up that will probably kick start me again.

The most interesting thing I'm going to be doing is working on an archaeological dig at a local historical site. You're invited along. We'll also be returning to the Heritage Gardens for their Autumn Pioneer Festival.

So, stayed tuned. Wit, wisdom and wild fun is sure to follow.

So many blank stares when I say Blog. Oh well. I love it for all the same reasons you mentioned.

I enjoyed your "stale stories" while you were away. That was a great idea. I stole it and called mine blast from the past...creative and original, I know!

I heart blogging too.

I can't wait to see what you sew.

Darned tootin' it's a job! It's a marketing job to support your Etsy shop and other endeavors, at the very least.

I showed up bright and early for the staff meeting with leftover cupcakes (chocolate buttercream icing) but thought I had the day wrong when I was the only one here. So I ate the cupcakes, lol.

Ooh keep a place for me at the archaeological dig. I look forward to it!
It is surprising that so many people don't know what a blog is and how extraordinary that blogging has become such a large part of our lives.

When I mention blogging, I'm met with the blank stares, sure, but also a bit of amusement. People think it's a narcissistic waste of time.
I love it, though. It's really opened a lot of doors for friendship and honed my writing for a few paid opportunities!
Now I just need to learn to sew.

Don't worry, everyone needs a break now and then....sometimes I think our brains go on vacation without giving us notice.

I am sure that you will meet your goals and have plenty of beautiful aprons to show at the craft shows.

I find it hard to believe that there are still people in our world who do not even know the word 'blogging'. I have printed out cards for myself that I hand out and tell only special people to take a peek if they wish. There are also many, many people I never give my blogging address to because I know right away, they just won't get it.

Hi Suzanne! I started a blog about a year ago to archive my family's adventures and my various crafting projects. I enjoy it very much, but I have recently become saddened by the thought that no one else enjoys it! Why write a blog if there's nobody out there enjoying it too? I read your blog nearly every day, just for the fun of it, and I really enjoy your stories. As a veteran blogger, do you have any advice for a young blogger in the throes of complacency?

Glad your back. It amazes me that even when you express you "writers block," you have something good to say. I love blogging too it would be great if we could make money at it. Somebody is making money at it, do you know what they do?

Tutorial? Blogs making money?

You are a wondeful blogger Suzanne, so stay with it!
And you may want to try a new form of birth control in your studio, the pull-out method doesn't seem to be working ;)

Sorry, but I just couldn't help myself...she said with her head turned down.
