Monday Morning Staff Meeting

Good morning and welcome to the Monday Morning Staff Meeting. This morning I've got a cheese coffee cake, coffee, hot chocolate and the only Starbucks product I will drink - Pumpkin Latte. It's delicious, try some!

The camera is taped together and snapping shots again! Thanks for all the advice on how to fix the boo-boo. Actually, duct tape did not work because this camera is larger and has lots of batteries which makes it heavy. What works is an artists tape that my son had on hand. It doesn't stretch. It's white and the camera looks goofy with it's white band aids.

I mentioned the fact that I bought a chalk marker. I promised pictures and now that the camera is up and running I can do that. The chalk marker that I bought was $3.50, which sounds expensive but I think that it will go a long way. I ordered a color called earth tone green (sage?). Here's what it looks like:

It's so clean looking and no dusty chalk or screechy sound across the board. I love it. I think I'm going to order one in a brighter color because this is a bit tame for me.

You can see the difference between the mark the chalk marker makes and a piece of white chalk.

Yes, I've made a note to myself to sign up for Netflix again. I miss it.

The Farmer has been officially unemployed for over a month and we haven't made it out to breakfast at Kountry Kettle yet. What's up with that? We made a pact and I'm longing for a half order of "Bud's Mess", a concoction of scrambled eggs, ham or bacon and hash browns. Maybe I can coax him out this morning.

About that archaeological dig - it was very interesting. I am forever grateful to Jim and graduate student Bill who were so patient in answering my many questions. Unfortunately my knees could not tolerate standing at the screening table for hours on end. They revolted in a big way.

The archaeologists were not specifically looking for artifacts, although they do tell a story. This season they were trying to pinpoint the location of the original well, which in turn would reveal the location of the two roads that met in front of the tavern.

It's fascinating to see them work and how their experience and knowledge leads them in a particular direction. I will say that it's a young person's endeavor, crawling around in pits and digging in the dirt.

I am thankful for the opportunity to add an archaeological dig to the completed column of my bucket list.

The local owner of an online quilt shop is offering store credit for anyone who helps her prepare for Quilt Market. I think this is something that I can do sitting down. It's definitely something I WANT to do because she has yardages of something called, "Dick and Jane" fabric and yes, it's fabric printed with images of Dick, Jane, Sally and spot. I could certainly make something out of that, don't you think?

Now on to the drawing for the Cultural Heritage Gardens Cookbook.

Thanks to everyone who left a comment.

You know how this goes. Write the names on paper. Old school, no stinking number generators for me!

Cut them out, folding them wing-nut style.

Place them in the huge brandy snifter.

(That could hold ALOT of brandy)

Pull the name. (Don't look at the big grey bathrobe. It's not glamorous but it's warm!)

And the winner is.......

Ingasmile!

Please contact me via e-mail with your information and I'll get the cookbook in the mail to you.

Thanks everyone for leaving comments and participating.

I'm turning the meeting over to you. I'd love to hear what you've been up to this past week. Anything exciting? Last week I felt very sympathetic to Steph who was dealing with DEAD CHICKENS!!

I've just finished baking a Texas Sheet Cake for my quilt guild meeting tomorrow, but I will sneak a few pieces for the Staff Meeting this morning for all those chocolate lovers in the group. The cheese coffee cake looks yummy!

I hope Ingasmile has fun the cookbook. I'll bet it has some interesting recipes and information.

Enjoyed the photos and glad you got your camera back together. I used clear packing tape on mine and it held for a long time.

Have a good week! I'll be checking your blog everyday to see what you're up to.

You should check around for an opportunity to help with archaeology lab work. When I go to field school, I sign up for field work in the mornings when it is cool (since June in Kansas can be HOT) and lab work or classes in the afternoons. Some people don't like lab work because they think it's tedious or unimportant. It's just as important as field work because if the artifacts aren't watched and cataloged, it all comes to naught. I enjoy the "tedium" of washing each tiny thing and learn quite a bit while doing it. I've helped sort for cataloging, too. The lab is often where you get to find out what those little scraps found in the field are and what meaning they have. It's very interesting work and can be done while sitting.

Thanks so much for the cheese coffee cake and hot chocolate. It is chilly here in Pothole, and my toes are almost ice.

Today I'm not doing much.

I'm working on a sweater for the boy for Christmas, but I'm afraid that I'm going to have to rip it out...waaaahhhhhhh I don't think it is going to fit him.

I have been reading your blog for quite some time but this is the first time sending a comment... tomorrow I plan on making your Biruk recipe with my 2 1/2yr old grandson and my 88yr old father. I think they will love it because we share Russian/Polish roots and they both like to help me cook.

Sending you best wishes for a happy day from Vermont.

Thank you for being you!

TODAY I finally went and toured our new Edinboro Library and received my new Electronic Library Card!
....My old card was so old, they actually could not even locate my name in the system! Of course, I've not been to the library in ages!
....Fall is definately here.....temps are in the high 50° range during the day. Much colder at night.

.....The multi colored landscape is spectacular! I LOVE FALL!

I love those Dick and Jane images. I remember those books from school. We are on Fall Break here in our school system. Enjoying the week off with temps in the 70's.

I'm a big fan of those Pumpkin Lattes myself. Panera Bread also has very good ones. Dunkin' Donuts, not so much.

I wondered what kind of pen you use on a chalkboard. That marker is cool!

Have a great week!

I'm on hold. I've been very ill - well, pretty much since April - and after 4 hospitalizations, 44 days in the hospital, many procedures, etc., I was sent home on IV antibiotics and 6 weeks of nothing by mouth while getting all of my nutrition via IV TPN. I'm a little more than half way through the six weeks - there are 18 days left. I miss eating. And yes, I'm a little hungry.

I have to rest. That's not easy for me.

And I'm trying to catch up on so many things I missed while I was so sick. That seems impossible.

This morning is my first Staff Meeting back and it just feels so normal and right - thank you for being there! I'm enjoying the coffee cake vicariously - please savor every bite for me!
