Crisis in Haiti

Today I'd like to ask you to keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.

The earthquake was a disaster made the worse by the fact that it occurred in the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. A place where there is little or no infrastructure and certainly no emergency response system.

They seem a world away, and they are in a sense. But they are people and it helps to put a face to the disaster.

Here are some photos taken in Haiti by my friend Tony Pecararo on one of this mission trips to support Dr. Morquette's hospital and orphanage.

This is the woman who cooked meals for the mission workers during their stay.

Dr. Hubert Morquette runs the World Relief Organizations efforts in and around Port Au Prince. Our church facilitates missions to Dr. Morquette's King's Garden Orphanage, which is home to about 36 children, with another 30 or so attending classes during the day and returning home in the evening.

Haiti has perhaps the lowest doctor per capita ratio in the western hemisphere. I've searched for those numbers unsuccessfully, but let's just say you'd be shocked. It's one doctor per thousands and thousands of individuals.

What will follow now will be looting and lawlessness. Please pray for Dr. Morquette, his famly and the people of Haiti.

Terrible what has happened in Haiti. I hope that everyone will reach out to do what they can to help Red Cross or other relief organizations.

Suzanne..as we watched this unfold our hearts saddened..I have donated to the Red Cross. Do you have a way of funding Dr Morquette's organization at this time? It may just be to big right now. I will add them to many prayer list, I know they are already being prayed for. Funny, I was chatting to you about sun and 'chins' up and what nots. No troubles here, right?

This was the first news I heard this morning, as the radio alarm came on - so sad.

I am watching and praying!

We are awaiting word on friends of the family who are missionaries in Haiti.

The reports are staggering but I am sure the reality is even worse than the television can translate.
Devastating.

Hello, I am working with the Sahana project to GPS locate hospitals in haiti. (http://wiki.sahana.lk/doku.php/haiti:geolocatehospitalchallenge)

One of the last hospitals is the kings hospital. We cannot find an address for this hospital anywhere. If you could give a physical description/and or address of where it is we can try and locate it from maps. Thank you!

Hi asa,

I saw your post and started looking for the location of the Hospital. The NGO for which I'm volunteering, supports the hospital.

Address:
Maïs Gaté 42
Port-au-Prince

Geolocation:
Latitude: 18.562831°
Longitude: -72.273323°

I sent the info to the contact email address on the Sahana's Haiti site.
