Life Intervenes

Sorry that I've been somewhat missing in action here "...At Home" but life sometimes has a way of intervening. We've got the 82-yr. old Mother, the 89-yr. old Other Mother and other general family chaos that has been swirling up a November mess. Everything is OK but just requires alot of personal attention. Add to that the fact that my neighbor and friend lost her brother after a very short medical emergency.

When it rains, it pours, eh?

I'll be back tomorrow with some interesting things I've been collecting over the last week. But for now I want to put you onto some free access.

I've been wanting to do some family research on *Ancestry.dot.com* but to be honest I was put off by the fact that they charge a monthly rate to access the information. There's no option for a one-time search. I'm just not so deep into ancestry search that I'd be willing to pay a monthly fee.

There's an ad in this month's History Channel magazine that says that in honor of Veteran's Day, *Ancestry.dot.com* will have a free access weekend (November 11-14) to search the world's largest collection of military records. Have a veteran you'd like to find out more about? Go to Ancestry.com to find out more. Sorry, for some reason it won't allow me to link directly.

See you tomorrow.

One day at a time, right? I was worried about you; have been lurking around and missed your posts! Family matters and concerns can surely be difficult; I know.

Let me know what ya want to look up, I'd gladly do it for ya. I know it is rotten ya have to pay, but it is worth it.

Life does have its ups and downs.....

Yes, when it rains is the best way to describe November here as well. Let's believe that it will all settle down into something better and brighter. I'll be thinking of you and yours...

Thanks for the Ancestry.com thing. I had a subscription for a while, but such things as researching veterans cost extra. I have a great-great grandfather who served in the Civil War and they have his information, but weren't giving it up. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

most public libraries offer ancestry.com for free for library card holders...

Good to know! I'll ask my dil if I can search there. She works at our local library on Sat. mornings. I did find him! At nine Sunday evening, I remembered what you'd shared and raced to the computer. So I found him in the family lot in Gloucester, Mass right where I might have suspected if I were a thinking person.

Suzanne - I should be able to locate your mother(s) in the census as girls in their parents' households and email you the images. I bet they'd be happy to see this. I can probably find their father's WW1 draft registration also. I will need names, dates of birth for the mothers, and where they were living. Also helpful would be their parents' names. If you find you'd like other info, please don't hesitate to ask. JJ@tampabay.rr.com
