Update on Birthing Kits

If you remember, we put together birthing kits at my niece's baby shower. (Her baby is due any day now). My niece was raised in a household that believed and taught the lesson of giving back and helping others, so in lieu of baby shower games we assembled the kits.

The birthing kit was Project Number 11 at CRAFT HOPE. Shockingly, only 1 in 10,000 Haitians have access to a doctor. One in TEN THOUSAND! Women have no pre-natal care or medically assisted births and so the work of the trained birth attendants (TBAs) is so important. Their work is difficult because they do not have access to even the most basic supplies. The kits allow for a safe delivery and include a clean piece of plastic sheeting, string, bar of soap, alcohol wipe, latex gloves, hand sanitizer and a receiving blanket to swaddle the newborn.

Maine will be walking for Haiti on June 4th.

The latest Craft Hope project is making bracelets for orphans in Russia. Read about it here:

MAKING BRACELETS

Perhaps this is a project that you can do with your children or grandchildren. Or perhaps you could put together a few while watching TV in the evening.

I encourage you to get involved.

Shocking stats!
One alcohol wipe? Is that enough?

I've sent along this information to my sis (a delivery nurse). I think she'd be especially interested as she has access to so many who are doing missions trips and has always wanted to do another herself.

Do let us know when that great niece or nephew arrives!
