Monday Morning Staff Meeting on a Wednesday

This staff meeting tardiness is getting to be a bad habit. I must work on that. Welcome. I hope that everyone had a blessed Easter with family and friends. It was quite a quiet day here as both the kids had to work and I am still battling that dreaded bronchitis. It sure has staying power! We bought a nice ham, just a generic brand from the local food store and it was spectaculary delicious. We can't keep commenting between us on how delicious it was and continues to be. I'm sharing some with you this morning, but don't tell the Farmer as he's not wanting to share. I'm slicing some up.

You know how Oprah has her favorite things? Well, I do too. This is one of them.

 These biscuits are in the freezer case at the store and they are so delicious. I cannot make a homemade biscuit that compares, and I've tried. You pull out at many as you need and bake them for 20-25 minutes. So, this morning we're going to have a little ham and biscuits. Dig in. There's also jam and honey if you wish. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Tell me how you've spent the weekend. I love to live vicariously, especially since I've been shut in. Next Sunday the Farmer is going to run/walk in a 5K fund raiser sponsored by the local library. It's called the Dewey Dash. Isn't that clever?

   Photobucket

I love our modern, newer library building but I remember the old library with great fondness. It was in a narrow storefront in the local downtown area. The floors were wooden and creaky. There were card catalogs! I love the card catalogs and occasionally you'll see the wooden cabinets for sale in an antique store or the flea market. Wouldn't it be great to have one to store all kinds of small things? Thread and buttons perhaps, or thousands of recipes. If you're in the area of Elburn, Illinois, join us and cheer on the Farmer and all the other participants.

While recuperating, I haven't had much time to surf around the web so I don't have much to share with you today. I'll show you one of my other favorite things. It's Dr. Teal's Epsom Salt Soaking Solution. Photobucket

I was in the drug store one afternoon and wanted to pick up some bath salts for a nice hot soak. Years ago I used Calgon but for some reason the scent didn't appeal to me anymore. The clerk steered me to Dr. Teal's and I'm hooked. The local drug store carries it in three different scents; Chamomile, Eucalyptus and Mint and Lavender.

  Photobucket

I've tried them all and they're all nice but Chamomile is my favorite. It is quite a strong scent compared to the other two so I've taken to mixing it with one container of unscented epsom salts and that's perfect. I'm not quite sure how epsom salts relax your muscles, perhaps it's a wives tale but regardless I enjoy those hot baths very much.

Blogger's new whatever-this-is..... platform or whatever, is dreadful. YUCK.

Nothing else from me today. Please let me know how you are doing and how you spent your weekend. Thanks as always for visting here with me and taking time out of your busy day to stop by.

Sorry you are still feeling "puny"! I've been busy for the last couple of weeks turning one of the kids' bedrooms into a Woman Cave for me. It is slow going because there is a labor problem around here when I need some help! hahaha But it is finally starting to shape up a little. I'm as giddy as a little girl at Christmas when I get something set up like I have seen it in my head! I'll be quilting up a storm if it ever gets complete. At least I can work some...I corralled someone to carry a machine up the stairs for me!

Feel better soon!

You are the second blogger that I read to mention those biscuits. This means just one thing. No more biscuit making for me.

Still with the bronchitis? Ugh.

Quiet Easters are great. I highly recommend them. We, too, are munching our way through the leftover ham. I think my feet are swelling. Last night, I ground a bunch of it up and had the most delicious ham salad sandwiches.

Our library moved to the third floor of the municipal building. Very handy for all of us old folks. Not so much. The sweet little brick library may become a sweet little bakery.

Your hubby runs five miles? Now that is something. I don't think that I could walk five miles.

I like the Epsom salts, too, as does the dog. She gets a lovely bath every week in an Epsom soak. Same brand, though I've not seen the scented ones. I'll be on the look out. Anything to make that dog smell better...

Thanks for being here this week. It's just the sunshine I need.

Hi Suzanne, Sorry to hear you're still suffering from bronchitis . You have had more than your fair share of doctor and ER visits. Hope you're back to good health soon. Love, Penny

Sorry to hear you are still down with the B. Try some Vicks Vapo Rub... it always helps me breathe better. Get some chicken soup, too. It's good medicine.
Your ham looks wonderfully juicy. I've seen those biscuits in the store... and now that I have a recommendation I will try them.
Go Farmer!!!!
We were prisoners in our home for Easter. Car died on Thurs, and we couldn't get it fixed until Monday. Needed a new radiator and thermostat. (Never talk about your money in front of your car. It must have heard us talk about getting the tax return, and finally being ahead somewhat.)
Always enjoy the MMM. You have a real talent for stringing words together. You should write a novel! I'd read anything you wrote.
Hugs!

I'm sorry to hear that you're still sick! I hope you get over that nasty bronchitis soon!
Regarding the epsom salts -- they contain magnesium sulfate. This is what does the magic. And here's a little tip I learned at the nursery -- sprinkle a bit of it around the base of your flowering plants. They love it and will reward you with more blooms.
Easter weekend was good here. We attended our church's Saturday evening service, and on Sunday we went to the beach. It was gloriously sunny and warm. A lovely way to spend Easter Sunday. No ham for us. We made ourselves a couple of sandwiches to take to the shore, being cheap, er, I mean frugal, and we sat on a bench looking out over the bay as we dined on our brown bag fare. Life is good.
Oh, it was my birthday on Friday, and you know that involved a tutu for me, and spinning the rock and roll tunes. Dancing in the middle of the livingroom, singing and clowning around with the usual suspects. Life is good indeed.
I hope that you're on the mend soon! You just need a good respite, stretched out on a lounge chair on the sands of Laguna Beach, with a towel boy to fetch you whatever you need. That'll fix you right up! :)

Ham...no thanks. Not a fan. I hosted a baby shower for 20 women and 3 children on Saturday. It was amazing and the mom-to-be received nice things. I served lunch with a taco bar. It was terrific. Sunday service with the passion play. Does any other part of the country do this? I find it to be a little bizarre.

Feel better soon.

Yours at the Menger,

Tess

Yum. I love ham and biscuits! I do only have it around the holidays, so maybe that's why I enjoy the ham and all the leftovers so much. I will be making ham & bean soup later.
We are getting huge chicken breasts here too. Maybe it's a spring chicken! I will have to try the Chicken Picatta.

Scented epsom salts? What a nice way to soak the day away. The magnesium actually is taken up by your skin and into your blood stream, to soothe those aches and pains. I hope I can find that brand around here.
Sorry to hear you are still fighting bronchitis...hope you feel better soon.:)

I will definately try the epsom salts in my bath, never knew it could be so benificial.
I am getting ready to make a pan of scalloped potatoes and ham, don't have any cream of tartar to help the potatoes not brown, so will do them in the oven rather than the crockpot.
Sure hope you get over that bronchitis, I am trying not to get it with the cold I have caught from the grand kids.
We had a busy Easter: helped get ready for breakfast at our church, then went to sunrise service, then helped serve and clean up from breakfast, during the regular church service we had nursery duty, we had 16 little ones, thankfully a dad and two other women came down and stayed, after church it was off to son and dil's for dinner-dil just had a baby 3/21, so between the other set of grand parents and the two sets of great grand parents dil fixed the potatoes and we did the set up and clean up along with bringing the rest of the food. It was as very full day! the last several Easter Sundays we have been travelling with our daughters and grand daughter (they went to NYC for spring break) kind of missed that.
Well, I have chattered on way to long! Sending prayers for your quick recovery. Pam

Hi Suzanne! I am from the Philippines and I read your blog religiously. I'm glad you are back to blogging again. With regard to your bronchitis, try applying vicks vapor rub on your feet and gently massage it for 5 minutes then wear socks overnight. Repeat this for 4-5 nights and see the benefits. Hope you'll be better very soon!
