The Way Back Machine

Photobucket

The time: 1941
The place: A picnic grove, somewhere

For those of you who thought the picnic was held on Friday ...... you're wrong! That was just the invitation and the sign up sheet, giving you time to whip up all those fabulous treats you volunteered to bring.

Today is the picnic and the weather is perfect.

If you have time load up your plate and tell us what you've chosen. Like me, I'm sure you've got some questions about some of the food....Pig Pickin' Cake for example. We are seriously going to need the recipe for that one. Keep an eye out for an e-mail because I'm going to be asking some of you for some recipes. I'd love to cook them and post the results. I promise to try and not BURN anything as I've been known to do in the past.

Before we hit the food table, we're going to draw for that apron.

The winner is NUMBER 16 - - - THIRKELLGIRL. E-mail me to claim your prize. Remember to send me your address.

OK...grab your plates. Here's the line up. Sorry I couldn't create links and I had to stop adding menu items around noonish on Saturday. There are only so many hours in a day and the Farmer needs his laundry done!

Now that is some picnic! What a bunch of creative cook! I don't see one thing on the list that I wouldn't enjoy!

As a matter of fact, it has given me a few ideas for the 4th of July party here!

Thanks Suzanne, that was fun!

What a delicious idea -- and again, what charming vintage photography! Reminds me of a picnic photo I have of my own relatives from the Orkney Islands of Scotland. My sepia-toned picnic photo was taken in this country, not long after my Orcadian family sailed in to settle here. Picnic baskets everywhere -- and boater hats! After seeing this photograph many years ago, my mother started dubbing our family gatherings "Ork Fests."

I won? I won! Yay! Not only am I so blog-challenged that I *still haven't figured out how to RSS-feed... but I can't figure out how to email you. How do I email you?

WOW, that is a lot of food and fun! Makes me full just to read it and that never happens.

Hi Suzanne :)

I'm a little scared of the "pickin' cakes" to be honest. Other than that... yum! I need recipes too!

You mean I didn't win?!! Dang it!
... ouch! who poked me?!... Okay, seriously... congratulations Thirkellgirl :)

I love that picture. Especially the woman reading the paper LOL

hugs,
rue

Good heavens, I can't believe you sat and typed out that list! Very impressive. There is enough there to feed Brazil.

Bobbi - Oh I'm so glad you're bringing books. You can read to us while we doze in the sunshine.

Vee - I love to see you dance

Chris - I agree, I got some great ideas for the Fourth. And WOW I got my cherry jello/pretzel recipe too!

Cindy - I fell like a ton of bricks for this photo. I have Scottish roots also, but they're so far back that we've lost all the traditions. And there was no photography at that time. You're very lucky to have those old photos. I love the term "Ork Fest". It sounds like something you could really build a feast around.

Thirkellgirl - Oh I'm so glad you won. I got your e-mail.

Janet - I actually got a little woozie (woozy?) looking at that list.

HEY - Where's my Grammar Nazi when I need her?

Rue - Don't be afraid of pickin' cakes! And don't worry honey, I'll have more contests.

Tara - I don't know, I have a Brazilian friend and he can eat ALOT.

KatKit - Glad you came.

Thanks everyone for joining in on the fun.

It all looks so good. I would love the recipe for the baked crab rangoon if the person will share it. I'm also very curious as to what is Cowboy Caviar. This one kind of makes me wonder if it's anything like Rocky Mountain oysters, ewww! Of course, it's probably not anything like that and delicious.
