The Five Hundred

My friends and I went out to dinner on Monday night and I left my camera at the restaurant. The staff put it aside for me to pick up when I'm in town tomorrow. Without my camera I had to dig around in my archives to find a photo to represent the five hundred. What's the five hundred?

This is my 500th post. I was very surprised when I realized that milestone was approaching. Where did the time go? How much water has passed under the bridge? Will I ever run out of things to say? I doubt it because I love to talk and in this house it's always something.

I want to thank each and every one of you for being along for the ride. I've been assured that spring will eventually arrive, the snow will melt and I'll be able to take you on some interesting field trips.

There's a possibility of attending the World's Largest Catsup Bottle Festival in southern Illinois and Steamboat Days in Burlington, Iowa. If I make a trip to Arkansas we can go mining for diamonds. The last time I was there it was so stinking hot I thought I'd die right there in the greenish volcanic soil. And no, I didn't find as much as a diamond chip for all my sweaty efforts. I did meet two women who travel all over the U.S. digging and hunting for gems. They'd been hunting sapphires out west somewhere. There are so many fun and interesting people in this world. We all need to get out and meet them!

Speaking of meeting interesting people, one of the field trips will be up to Wisconsin's dairy country to meet up with Heidi, the Milk Man's Wife. You can come along too.

In honor of my 500th post I'll be giving away one of my Farmer's Wife Aprons. Sorry, no pictures of the apron until I retrieve my camera from the restaurant. Leave a comment and I'll put your name in the running.

Hi Suzanne,
I've been reading your blog for a while and enjoy your posts while I'm having my morning cup of tea. 500! Cheers! I look forward to 500 more. I especially love the Way Back Machine--brings back memories of similar times in my family.
Sign me up for an official Farmer's Wife apron! It would get much use around my kitchen. Happy 500 Day!

Congrats on the 500! I have seen that catsup bottle many times. My boys are always enamored with it. My youngest is a "he likes ketchup on his ketchup" kind of guy. And since the giant bottle is the brand we use they just think it's great.

That is great and am glad your posting. I love all your writes....I lived near the big ketchup bottle when young and my grandparents would haul their tomatoes to the factory to make ketchup. Brooks was the best back then.....still a shining beakon for Collinsville.
Please keep writing and I'll keep reading....your talented.....but being an Illinoiser how else can you be.......

An apron like you demonstrated in the tutorial last summer? The series of posts that inspired me so much that I determined to get right on the project and make my own? Yeah, right. I had such good intentions, but life intervened. It is on my to-do list.

Oh please, add my name to the hat just in case I don't get that far down my list in 2009. :)

You said that you and MMW were going to the Norske Nook on your field trip. Are you taking orders for Norske Nook lefse? It sounds fabulous.
Yes, I'd love one of your aprons. It is always a good idea to look stylish while creating gourmet meals, or baking a frozen pizza.

Dara - I'm so glad that my stories can take you back to that time. I've got a very strange story for you tomorrow.

Di - I love aprons too. If you don't win you can go back into my archives and find out how to make one. They're not hard.

Heidi - 3:46 a.m.? Omigosh, you're killing me. I had to think about the fact that schnitzel was coming in July. I thought there was some kind of German Gypsy Wagon that was going cross country frying up schnitzels!! But you mean SCHNITZEL.... as in Schnitzel and the Trout....I love them. Your name is in the pot for the apron. Don't feel so bad, it's supposed to snow here tomorrow.

Short Old Lady - Hey, I got accused of being short yesterday when I posted the picture of me with the band. I'm not short....they're tall and they're wearing high heeled boots.

Fryes - That so much. It's for people like you that I write and snap photos.

Chocolatechic - Seriously.....I'm in love, LOVE with your baking skills. I want to move in to your garage and eat your castoffs.

Susan - Look everyone! Schnitzel is here. I'm debating whether to delay my trip until July or make TWO trips. That would mean two visits to Norske Nook for pie!

Kathy - Seriously, you think I"m humorous? My family would have a big laugh at that.

Kitty - You are officially signed up for the drawing. I'm glad that people like the Way Back Machine. I just thought it would be good to take a look back every Sunday. I love old photos. I make up stories about them.

Patricia - thanks. Here's the deal, you keep on reading and I'll keep on writing.

Mim - There you are. Would you believe I've never tasted Brooks catsup? I'm going to look for it next time I'm in the store.

LydaBabes - Your grandparents took their tomatoes to that factory? How cool is that? What memories.

Bella Della - Your name is on the list for the apron. Good luck.

Lisa - There are so many festivals you wouldn't believe it. I have a whole list on the wall in my office here. How about the Flatlander Festival in Goodland, Kansas?

Harper - You are correct. It is an escape and you've aptly described the fact that most of the world is intense. I truly believe that is one of the reasons the Farmer and I love rural. Intense is held at bay.

Girl from the Country - YES...I lived in Texas for awhile and I love men in aprons and BOOTS. I've gotten to love Texas style barbecue and that's saying alot from a person who is loyal to southern barbecue.

DandelionMom- you are on my growing list. Drawing will be soon.

Amber - Would you believe I often forget to put an apron on? What's up with that?

BV - Keep those fingers crossed. I can just see you in a colorful apron.

Meadowlark - MIL??? We won't go there today. HA.

Cindy - I always carry my camera everywhere. I got into that habit when I started publishing my photoblog 4 years ago.

1 in College - You need an apron with your busy family. I'll enter your name.

Becky - Thanks. I appreciate the fact that you take time out of your busy day to visit.

Punkin - Don't be impressed. It easy when you're an incessant talker like me.

Iva - My intention was to create a safe place to land every day.

Liz - You don't travel? No worries! I'll gladly do it for you. I'm just glad you're along for the ride.

Red Shoes - If you win I'll make sure it's a red apron.

Vanessa - Thanks so much for commenting and entering the contest.

Alaura - Keep talking and you'll get there in no time.

Deborah - You're entered to win. Wishing you luck.

Birdi - Wooo... that's gonna take awhile.

Pieceful - I'm glad you find it interesting. My family would probably be shocked!

Paula - Yes, it's the same apron. Don't worry, I've got tons and tons of unfinished projects.

Kelly - Google Reader is a very good thing. I use Bloglines and I love how it shows me which blogs have been updated.

Thanks everyone for commenting, participating and most of all reading my daily entries. WIthout you I'd be talking to myself and that would not be a good thing.

I love your blog. I go into withdrawal if I can't be on line to check it every day. I will have to check out the biggest catsup bottle.

Thanks for such a fun blog.

Congrats on your 500th! You know what? I may be making aprons myself, but I'm down to two...just two! I'd love to have another even as I'm realizing how selfish I am. S.e.l.f.i.s.h. very!
