Pick a Project, Any Project

My problem seems to be that, like my habit of reading more than one book at a time, I also start more than one project at a time. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has this terrible habit. What results is chaos. We're living in chaos right now.

The neighbor painted the house for us but my son and I decided we'd do the deck. That project is almost done, just one more coat on the upright posts, then I can put everything back on the deck and get it out of our backyard.

When my daughter was home a few weeks ago she made a true comment while on the phone to a friend.

"It looks like the Adams Family lives here, what with the overgrown gardens and all the stuff in the back yard."

Sigh.

While the deck project was in progress I was also working on my sewing room. I thought I'd share a few photos with you. A full report will be forthcoming when it's finished..... IF it gets finished.

IKEA has a wonderful bookcase of 25 cubicle spaces, but it's $200 and I decided to go another route. I got two black bookcases on sale at Target for $26 each and a small one for $19.

They're perfect for the purpose except that they were heck-on-wheels to put together. The directions said "no electric drill". I have blisters on my hand from tightening all those screws by hand.

Two of the bookcases finally assembled. Note the yellow vacuum cleaner on the right hand side. We have several expensive vacuums that just don't seem to work. This very inexpensive machine works like crazy!

The shorter bookcase snugs up to the others. A third tall one was not possible due to the light switch. Besides I can use the top surface to hold my large jars of buttons.

This is just a bit of my fabric, waiting to be organized on the shelves.

Making progress. I LOVE the wall color. It's an Olympic color called Morning Fog. It's beautiful in any light.

Getting somewhere.

Folks, this is just part of the fabric. I have another whole bookcase hidden in an alcove. It holds all the large yardage pieces.

So, if you EVER hear me say I'm going out to buy fabric, you have my permission to cut a switch and invite me to join you behind the tool shed where you can beat the living sense back into me.

I do with yarn what you do with fabric. I have enough yarn to last the rest of my life, my daughter's life and her daughter's life!

I love it! I bought my mom a bumper sticker a long time ago that she had stuck above her ironing board... "She Who Dies With The Most Fabric Wins." :)

Wow. That corner of your workroom looks so tranquil. It appears to be a haven where you can create beautiful things. I need to try to make such a place where I can create. We all need a corner of our own but how many of us have one that is truly ours. Love it.

Those bright, beautiful fabrics look gorgeous against the black bookcases!
And your wall colour looks very similar to what I painted in our bathroom. It's a very relaxing colour, and easy to live with.
For our vacuum, I just use a shopvac. It's big and ugly, but it works better than most other vacuums I've used. I also don't have carpet, so I don't need a vacuum with the carpet beater bar.

Beautiful shelves and fabric stash. I really like that your note board fits the open space, and looks so neat. Never stop shopping for new and lovely pieces to add.

From a knitting blog, I have learned this acronym, SABLE (stash accumulation beyond life expectancy). I love it, and I have it in fabric. My reasoning is that fabric or yarn or other durable goods do not rot, melt, or disintegrate from age, therefore they are reasonable to buy when you see something you love. Especially when it is on sale. And if the print or solor goes out of style, just wait a bit, it will come back.

At least that's what I tell myself. Now, I just need to get busy and use fabric until all the full bins fit on my shelves.

I love the bookcases, great idea.

I love the fabric, all nice and color coordinated.

And I have a switch;)

I love seeing all that fabric beautifully folded on those newly put together shelves. Beautiful. And that wall color...yummy. Now, what I really want to know is what kind of a cheap vacuum is that that works so well? (My vacuums both bit the dust a couple of months ago and I've been sweeping...with a broom...achoo.)

Well I am unable to read more than one book at a time but I always have more than one -- ummm 3 or 4 projects going at the same time. If you are the Addams family I must be a close relation! Your sewing room is coming together nicely! Now if they would just stay that way...sigh!

My goodness that's a lot of B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L fabric! You and my (quilt maker) Mom should never shop together! Ha! Your plain bookshelves look like art with all that colorful fabric.

I love what you've done! The bookcases are really nice - but yes a bear to put together.

I'm not very good at talking people out of buying fabric. In fact, we could meet up at a quilt shop in the middle of us sometime. ;)

Meanwhile, my sewing room looks SO bad, I'm not showing you. heehee

What a lovely place to be inspired and to work! The contrast of the black against your "fog" walls is magical. I'm working in chaos, but perhaps will find a way to clear it out!
